Food, food, food, lets talk booze!

When I had my surgery done, I was given a book about lap band surgery that was written by a prominent Australian lap band surgeon. In the chapter about food and drink it stated that at first they told their patients not to drink as it was just empty calories, but that through research with their clients they found that a glass of wine, especially a glass of red wine was actually beneficial to weight loss. It stated that he allowed 7 glasses of red wine per week. :clap2:

I've enjoyed a glass of wine since surgery on occasion, and my favourite right now is Yellow Tail Chiraz. Yummy!

I've been craving a bottle of beer the last few days, it's just been so hot and sticky, but I'm afraid of the fizzies. So I'll stick with my occasional glass of wine

Oooh, excellent post. :clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2: Thanx for the info. :)

I started drinking wine about 7 days post op. (That's a liquid, correct?) I know it has slowed my weight loss some. (I have lost 50 pounds in one year) However, I was not willing to give up wine. I enjoy one to two glasses a few times a week and have never had a problem with the band. I have also not experienced any difference in the effects of it pre and post surgery.

I still remember my first lunch outing post-surgery. My team went to an Indian restaurant and I had Soup and a fabulous glass of wine.

You should be mindful of where you get your calories but for most of us, wine is not going to be the reason that our progress has slowed.

I drink a glass almost every day... exercise and smart food choices allow me to have it when I want it.

I love my band!!!

I don't think the odd drink of wine will hurt but I paid $16,000 for this band and don't want to screw it up. Carbonated drinks don't bother me but I know they are not good for the band which means beer also. Again it's your comfort level and the risk you are willing to take but this is my second weight loss surgery. Also Allergan the manufacturer of Lap Band states no carbonate as over time it can impact the band.

I haven't had a carbonated drink (and I was a 2l a day diet coke addict), nor any alcohol since 1 week pre-op....in Feb.

I've considered having a glass of wine at different times, but then just said, hell for the same calories I could have XYZ. I prefer to eat than drink, so wine has lost every time! Not to say that won't change sometime, but so far, no alcohol.
