I'm dying here. Everything makes me nauseous. I'm definitely not drinking enough. I know I'm not eating enough. Water hurts my stomach and makes me burp like crazy. Idk if it's the omeprazole but I don't want to feel like this.

It's making me regret this whole process.

By the way- surgery was Feb 22, 2016

Dear Valentine... I had my surgery Oct 28, 2015 and a lot of things still make me nauseous. The big theme here is time! You only had your surgery less than 3 weeks ago! I have lost 81 lbs, and went through the same things. But now I would go through it all again. Stick to the diet they gave you after surgery, very small amounts, do not try stuff you are not supposed to yet. As for liquids, never right before or after meals, and SIP, SIP, SIP! Always take very small sips, and never ever use a straw! It will get BETTER! Do not freakout and don't ever give up. Good luck!

I don't stuff. And I follow what they say I can eat. It just hurts my stomach. Whether I sip or not. It really sucks. Im scared to even drink Water. I mean, I drink it but it hurts like hell. And am I suppose to burp this much still? I know it's only been two weeks and I don't mean to sound defeatist but I started off good. Nothing upset my stomach and then all of a sudden, BAM!

Day 8 and everything turned sour.

That's the reason why I'm starting to get sad.

But, ok. I'll calm down and try not to despair. Ty for responding :-)

Try different temperatures of Water, even warm. I used to drink ice Water all the time pre-surgery. Now I can only do room temp or hot water. I drink A LOT of herbal tea. Warm feels good in my stomach. Omeprazole shouldn't make your stomach hurt more, it's supposed to make it better.

If you keep hurting, call the surgeon or the bariatric nurses, or hotline...that is what they are there for. I have a 24 hour hotline I can call with my program. If it's that bad, you can also go to the emergency room. You don't want to dehydrate.

I had a lot of Water nausea straight out of surgery. I still get it sometimes. I use water enhancers like Mio. Drinking shakes will help with hydration. ITA about playing with water temps. I often drink hot water with lemon.

Valentine, at about 1-2 months out from my surgery, I suddenly started having terrible problems with eating and Water. I'd had no problems with any foods or Water up till then (I even had to go get an upper GI to make sure nothing was wrong).

All I can say is, try to be patient, try different ways to drink your fluids, and trust that it is going to get better. Dehydration is a serious problem so I would focus on gettiong in your fluids and not worry about calories for a few days. Here are some things that you can try (probably some have already been suggested):

- Eat Soup or V8 or Protein shakes as some of your meals, so you get Fluid without having to drink water per se.

- Conciously breathe OUT while you swallow liquids. That's helped cut down a lot on the painful gas I was experiencing. It takes a little concentration but it can be done!

- Try water at different temperatures - room temp works best for me now (I sure do miss slugging down a glass of icewater though!).

- Try flavorings, both subtle and strong. What worked best for me was a few drops of plain lemon or lime juice concentrate. Sometimes the Crystal Lite berry powder worked too, though not at full concentration. Another favorite was bouillon.

- Try coffee and tea, if you are permitted to have those. "Poor Irishman's Tea" worked pretty well for me (hot water, a slice of lemon or squirt of lemon concentrate, & a TINY sprinkle of sugar or your favorite sweetener, just enough to offset the tartness of the lemon)

Dehydration is the number one cause of re-hospitalizations after surgery, so you really do need to get in your fluids. If you start showing signs of real dehydration, call your program immediately. My program said to contact them if I wasn't able to get in a certain number of ounces of fluids (I think it was 40 oz) in a day (remember all fluids count, not just water).

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
