Post-Op nastiness, ways to get through it?

Recommended Posts

There's only one miracle drug for feeling poorly after surgery and that is to WALK. It absolutely positively can NOT be stressed enough. Every time my shoulder hurt, I got up and walked. Every time my incisions felt tight, I got up and walked. Just a turn around the house several times made a huge difference. You'll feel that gas start to shift. You will be burping and pooting and I mean a LOT for the first week. It what you WANT to do. And each time you walk you will feel that gas shift and look for a way out....blessed relief! I also took a lot of gas-X which helped.

Hi I just got out of hospital yesterday, had LAP-BAND® surgery monday morning that day had alot of pain in my left side from gas I just got out of bed and walked it really helped and the hospital wanted me to blow in a breathing device to help me cough so I would not get pnenoma , you just have aot of gas. sara

hey

I had my lapband replaced on tuesday so... that's monday in America, so it was literally the same day. hehe

I think you're right though! Walking is the big key... the faster you can get yourself off the painkiller drip and walking, the better.

The gas goes faster when you make your body start to move... it wakes up your bodys functions, I think.

Hi this is Sara Wow why did you have it redone, Yes today is 4 day post op I feel much beter, I really have not used pain killers have them but really dont need them I really want to feel my bodies needs, Pain killer will not take gas pains away, walk walk walk, get up stand sit up, I have noticed that I have not really have alot of good sleep because of trying to get comphy, but with alot of pillows, getting up and walking also surger free popsicles it has helped. I slept pretty good today. Make sure you take your multi vitmiam pill, drink your protien drink it may take you 2 to 3 hours to finish but believe me it gives you power. Well if you want you cn keep in contact. Sara

I, too, feel like roadkill from a Mack Truck!! I went to the ER today to see if all the pain in my legs was due to a blood clot, thank god it's not. They said, at ER, sometimes you are positioned in odd positions to get the cathader in during the surgery. Most likely my pain and soreness is due to a frog like position that they use. :scared2: Also I haven't been taking much of the narc. just because I don't like the way I feel on them, but the Dr. said to use as directed until this pain goes away. As for the chest pain, mine isn't that bad, my gas moves easily when I walk. I am so thankful for this forum. You are not alone in this, you can always cry on our shoulders! :crying: Good Luck~

The shoulder pain is caused by the gas they used to blow up your stomach area. The pain is temporary. Your neck and throat is sore due to the position during surgery and having the tube down your throat. It will pass. Did your hospital give you a breathing thingee? You blow hard on it like you're blowing up a balloon. If they didn't give you one, get someone to bring you some balloons and blow on them periodically to get your lung function back. I know what you feel like, but it only lasts a few days, so just bear with it, take your pain med and dream of how you will look in those size 8 jeans!!

Hey everyone!

I'm 6 days post-op and can tell you IT WILL GET BETTER! Just continue to walk to get the gas out and make sure you get in all your fluids. I find that it helps to sleep with a pillow on or next to my port incision to help ease the pain.

Its been snowing here so, I've been doing mall walking... Try it :scared2:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
