Surgery Roux-en-y Surgery April 4!

Recommended Posts

I got the call today that my date is set. I'm a ball of emotions fear hope happiness nervous. I dont know what I should expect after surgery besides what my doctors have told me. This is the first time I have found a group of people who are in the same boat as me. I am in Canada though I notice most here are American.

I am in Ontario I have mine being covered by OHIP under the bariatric program which I believe is covered in all of Canada although it is quite the process. October will be 3 years since I started this process

I am scheduled for 4/4/16 too!! I am in the states, from the time I initially spoke with my PCP about wanting surgery to the surgery date will be 5.5 months (the insurance program was a 13 week program, but with coordinating everything needed it has taken longer).

I'm Kelsie, and I am 29. It will be kind of neat having someone going through the same things at the same time!

Excited and terrified, tbqh. lol I just bough a bunch of Protein powder and my first month's supply of chewable Vitamins, which made everything more real. I'll be starting my pre-op diet next week and I'm struggling not to mow down everything in sight as a 'last meal' lol. I think it'll be easier to manage once I break this sugar addiction. >_<

But mostly, I'm really excited to get this strain off my back and hips. I'm not even 27 years old yet, and I feel like I'm 55. It's time to feel healthy again.

What about you??

I feel the same way with back and hip problems at 31 ahhhhh lol can't wait to be done with all the crap that comes with weight. I still need to go through my paperwork and figure out what I need. What brand of Protein Powder did you get if you don't mind me asking? And what Vitamin brand? Just curious

I would suggest just being honest with your boss. You can wait a week and say I just found out a surgery I was waiting forever for will be the 16th of April. You do not have to tell them what the surgery us for just say it's a stomach surgery and leave it at that.

I went with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein. I'm severely lactose intolerant, so I've tried just about every Protein Powder on my 'approved' list (both whey-based on dairy free), and Unjury has been the only one that doesn't make me sick or taste gross, imo. Muscle Milk Light isn't bad either, but it's somewhat obnoxiously sweet, and I worry that I won't be able to tolerate that after surgery, so I bought the chocolate splendor, unflavored, and chicken Soup flavors from Unjury. They also do a great sample pack if you want to try their flavors! The only one I didn't like was the strawberry.

For Vitamins, I kinda went all over the place, but I did get them all from Amazon. I got the Centrum Complete chewables for my Multivitamin and the Bariatric Advantage 500 in Caramel for Calcium. I went with Superior Source for Biotin and a Vitamin B12/B6/Folic Acid complex. I also bought Bluebonnet Earth Sweet Vitamin D3 in the 5000IU strength, as I already have a Vitamin D deficiency. Honestly I just typed "name of vitamin chewable" and chose the one that had the best reviews in the strength I needed lol. I only bought enough for one month, so if they're gross, I won't have wasted a ton of money, and I can switch.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
