Mandi - my first one was the day after surgery. Everyone gets either constipated or lets loose, so to speak. Hope you aren't having to many issues with it. Remember you aren't getting in nearly the amount of food now!

Hey, I was wondering if any of you had any drainage from any of your incisions. I am having a very small amount of oozing from my port incision and one other one. It is a light buttery color and thin liquid (not like pus). I don't have any other signs of infection....no fever, redness, swelling, odor, etc. I'm just wondering if this is normal? I'm kind of scared because everyone says if you have yellow or green drainage, that means infection and go to the ER right away. But, it's a very small amount and like I said, no other signs of infection. I will call my surgeon's office tomorrow. But do you all think its okay in the meantime?

I would call your surgeon and ask directly what his opinion is. Cy

I had my surgery on the 28th Sept. Am so glad that part is over. I had never had anaesthetic before, so was quite nervous. I didn't feel too bad afterwards until I became very dehydrated while in hospital. That made me feel very unwell, and I had to stay in the hospital for an extra night, just in case, as my blood pressure was very low. I didn't drink enough Water after the surgery obviously. The doctor told me afterwards that I had a hiatus hernia-apparently he finds that in 1 in 4 patients, caused by being overweight. I was surprised at how sore I felt, though the pain seems to be getting better really quickly. I'm on fluids only for 4 weeks. The doctor suggests staying on the Protein Shakes and Soups that I had for the 2 week pre-op diet. They taste very nice and saves cooking, so am happy to do that. I also have been having lots of diet jelly. I have learnt so much from this web site. There was another lady in my hospital room who had the surgery on the same day as me, and she had no idea about how the band works. She didn't know that there wasn't really proper restriction until the fills, and didn't really know about the fills either. I was amazed. I'm really grateful for all the info. I've learnt from this website

Mandi - Have you called your drs office? What did they recommend for you? I hope it is going better now.

Everyone from the 28th surgery day seems to be doing great!

Libby - Isn't it horrible that people are having this surgery and KNOW nothing about what they are doing??? It just amazes me!

I called and the nurse said it was normal but she didn't even ask the dr about it. I emailed her some pictures of it this evening requesting she show them to the dr (because the dr is 1 1/2 hours away) and to please ask him if it looks ok or if I need to come in. We'll see what she says.

Well, I hope it all turns out ok. Worst case senerio, I guess you could always go to your pcp if you feel you need it looked at and your surgeon doesn't have the availability. If it concerns you, then you need to have it looked at. Good luck!

The surgeon looked at the pictures and said it looks fine so I'm relieved.

Note to self: Don't watch Rachael Ray during bandster hell.

LOL mandi - I so know what you mean! I love watching Paula Deen and have to control myself now! She makes yummy fattening foods! I will have to learn how to tweak some of them! I am glad to hear that your ooozzzing was nothing, sometimes you just have to worry though. I totally understand!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
