Stall? Sleeved February 11th & What are you eating? & How much? Gas pains between shoulder blades?

Recommended Posts

I was skeeved Feb 11th, since then I've.barley lost 10 lbs. It's so frustrating. I lost 29 before surgery abd felt like I was on a roll. What are you eating? I'm.still I pureed foods and can barley eat half a cup. Also when I eat I feel very very uncomfortable, as if I have gas built up between my shoulder blades, it hurts! At times I think I have to throw up and run to the restroom. Anyone else experience this? Ugh it's terrible.

Hi. I was sleeved on 2/15. I had gas so bad in my left shoulder that the day shift people thought I had pinched a nerve. (I experienced some nausea and dry-heaving the day after). Night nurse figured it out. Gas-X helped a lot (as did walking). Still, my shoulder had twinges up until late last week. I occasionally feel gas after eating (takes me a bit to recognize it for what it is). I take the reflux med prescribed to me and that helps.

I gained 5 lbs. due to surgery. I lost that and finally hit 10 pounds lost from SW on Sunday. I'm averaging about a pound every other day. It's frustrating when I see people who lose so much faster than I do. Then I remind myself that's around 3.5 lbs. per week. For me, that is pretty darn good!

If you have reflux meds, take them. I get that heart-burny feeling high up if I've eaten too much. It's usually about 1 bite more than I needed because I'm still learning how to recognize my "full" feeling. Gas-X also seems to help with that, and it definitely helped with my shoulder.

I don't envy you. My shoulder was so bad that I couldn't use my left arm to push myself up or out of bed.

I agree with the right below the wing pain. How do we have gas pains way up there? I have a hard time getting Water and Protein down. Keep at it!!! It will happen!

I think it's because I need to burp so badly? Also my mouth will Water so much, like right before you throw up. I guess that's called sliming? It's awful.

If you have that kind of pain this far out, you may be eating too much too fast. You are also likely in the famous 3 week stall. Just keep working the program, and it will come off. Meanwhile slowdown and chew well and stop eating at 20 minutes and see if that helps the pain

My sister cracked up when I told her I really wished I could shoulder fart! :D I don't get it either. How does gas wind up over there?

I think it's likely because I started my period, awful timing. Just very frustrating to lose that much before then hardly anything after for 2 weeks!

I think you're right about too much too fast. I lost weight the first week, then nothing the last 2.

The gas pain you feel under your shoulder is referred pain from the gas somewhere else

It just means the nerves in the shoulder are somehow connected to the upper belly, so the pressure in the belly from the gas is felt in the shoulder. Weird. Huh?

I was sleeved on 2/18, lost almost 25lbs but am experiencing the same things as you. I didn't realize that the shoulder pain was from gas! It almost feels like my shoulder was dislocated! I also feel very uncomfortable when I eat and am struggling with what is a full feeling vs a sick feeling. I agree - very frustrating, but I'm sure it'll get easier with time.

What are you eating? You might try eating a little less than half a cup. I was eating about 2 to 2.5 oz of soft foods/purees at a month out. Do you weigh your foods? It might help to figure out what is a comfortable amount.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
