Anyone past or present used them for surgery? I've read some posts here they make you wait 6 months before you're qualify for surgery. Just want to know you about your experiences so I can be prepared.

I am currently in a 3-month weight management pre-op program at LVHN. Your insurance will determine how long your pre-op program is. If your insurance does not require one, I believe LVHN still has you do the three month program. I think it is quite beneficial. I am building relationships with professionals who will help me whether I am 6 dats post-op or 6 years. Also, they want to make sure they are sending mentally healthy, prepared, willing candidates into surgery. I am very happy with their program.

That's who I went through. My insurance had a 6 month policy. Had my surgery on March 12th.

Who did your surgery? I just had my consult with Dr. Boorse last week.

We decided to hold off my surgery until I get back from vacation. My surgery is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 16

I decided not to go through it. When I went to my appointment, I found out in only 15 pounds away from falling under 40. And if I hit the 40 mark, they'll need to put me on maintenance for the sake my insurance. Btw I was put in a 3-month program.

Anyway, by the time I attended my first class, I'm down to 265. That means I'll 5 pounds away from falling under the 40-BMI mark. I felt that emotionally I wasn't ready for something so extreme if I can do this on my own.

I think you made a good choice! Don't do anything you are not emotionally, mentally, and physically ready for. I am also 265, but my BMI is 50. I thought I wanted Gastric Bypass about 10 years ago, but it didn't work out with insurance and I felt as though I just needed to give it go on my own as well. Now here we are ten years later and I still haven't been able to keep the weight off. Plus with gastric sleeve being less invasive and having less complications, i felt as though now was my time. I wish you well on your weight loss journey!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
