Lovin2lose 25 Posted March 7, 2016 We love to go on cruises and I'm just wondering how you handle your eating on a cruise? What about at night in the dining rooms, do the waiters ever look at you because you're not eating everyting? Any tips?
Scout1702 8 Posted March 7, 2016 I was sleeved September 2, and have lost 80 pounds. I haven't been on a cruise, but we did vacation at an all-inclusive resort in Riviera Maya a few weeks ago. It was wonderful! The ability to walk into a buffet and have so many different choices, all day long, made it easier for me to eat as much as I should (6 times a day). I have been struggling with eating ENOUGH, as opposed to TOO MUCH. Buffets are perfect for me. As far as wait-staff goes, I feel they don't generally pay attention to things like that. We had a few dinners at the specialty restaurants in the resort, and I just ate what I could and didn't worry about the rest. Enjoy your next cruise!
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted March 7, 2016 Yup. Went on a 17-day all-inclusive, high-end luxe cruise over the Christmas / New Year's holidays. I came back weighing EXACTLY THE SAME I weighed when I left, even though I ate dessert and drank wine for both lunch and dinner almost every day. Happily, The ship doesn't serve food in every cubbyhole and deck -- but in restaurants where they cook slow food and serve smaller, European-sized portions, not US Golden Corral portions. I ate three meals a day -- Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The secret is Portion Control and stopping when you feel satiated. And not eating between meals. And going on the hiking / walking excursions when you're in port. And taking the stairs when you can. And enjoying any gym classes that appeal to you. P.S. And no, the wait staff did not look funny at me. Their job is to help me do anything I want to do. And on that cruise line they do their jobs perfectly. peaceout 273 Posted March 7, 2016 I went on a cruise in January and I was 6 months post-op. Like the previous posters have said, eating really was a non-issue! I liked that there was always some sort of buffet going on, because on my plan I am supposed to eat 5-6 times daily. So for the mid-morning and mid-afternoon times where the main dining wasn't open, it was easy to go get some chicken, fish, or shrimp from a buffet. For the dining room meals, I never had anyone comment on my eating patterns. I think they're used to picky eaters, as well as the people who will eat enough for 3+ people, so nothing seems all that weird to them! My tip: Make use of that gym and the walking/jogging track and any other activities that you can! And for the excursions, pick the walking/hiking/kayaking/etc. ones. It really was a whole new type of vacation for me, actually welcoming the more physical activities instead of dreading them. Enjoy your cruise. I'm a semi-frequent cruiser, and this most recent one was my favorite because I looked better, felt better, and was in total control of myself. I certainly splurged a little (dessert here and there, my first alcoholic beverages since surgery), but still came back and lost 1 pound that week! It was amazing. Susan66 128 Posted March 7, 2016 (edited) I was Sleeved 12/10, left on a cruise 1/24 @ 6 weeks post op. Here's what I did, I took some single serve packets of my Syntrax Protein Drink for Snacks, to be sure I did get enough Protein each day. At Breakfast I either had an omelette or scrambled eggs. lunch was some form of protein, which even when off the ship was easy enough to get. dinner in the dining room was always a shrimp cocktail which I ate half of. For my main dish at dinner, I would have a lobster tail or some type of fish or grilled chicken. I would ask for it to be seasoned with only salt & pepper. One thing I figured out half way through the trip was that if I ordered another appetizer for my main dish, it was the perfect size. It was very easy to stay on track.[emoji4] My waiter at dinner never questioned me about why I was eating so little. Edited March 7, 2016 by Susan66
