For Guys Only, Liquid Diet, Sleeve, and Testosterone

Recommended Posts

I am a 41 year old guy. My wife and I had a very high sex drive before the liquid diet began. I do use Viagra because of some "misfires" I believe to be caused from my diabetes. Two nights before surgery (10 days on liquids) we tried to have a "Grand sendoff" before my surgery. ED kicked in and I was not able to finish. It's been quite a while since that has happened. Very disappointing. I'm now 5 days post op. Thought I might make another effort when I get out my drain in 2 days, but I'm a bit gun-shy. I have heard stories of soaring drives and success after surgery, and I know I'm early. I'm not a spring chicken but I still had "morning wood" 2 or 3 days a week pre liquid diet. With the exception of the Viagra induced failure pre op, I have not even been able to get an errection since the start of the Liquid Diet 15 days ago. I checked my Protein and its whey not Soy. Anyone else have this issue? Help? Feeling quite emasculated right now...

Sex drive did soar a few weeks after surgery, but my hormones were really pretty out of whack for a while (very low testosterone, high esterol during my 4 week labs). This may well be what is going one with you. I would talk to your doctor and see what they think. Just did my four month labs and hormone levels are back to normal. It gets better.

First off, dude... it happens to the best of us so don't let it get into your head. I could have written your post a year ago myself. However, once I got the drain out and my incisions were pretty well healed and I was off the blood pressure medicine; well it was on after that!

Once you start rapid weight loss, you are going to have a ton of hormones dumped into your bloodstream too. There were many a night where my wife had to tap out long before I was ready.

Oh, and as an aside... don't worry about the soy Protein giving you moobs or elevating estrogen levels. That has been pretty much debunked. Unless you are taking in mass quantities like a vegan weightlifter. Soy is safe.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
