I had my surgery on March 2nd, I was kept in the hospital an extra day because of nausea. Now home I'm not really hungry but every Comercial seems to have food involved. Now trying to break the addiction aspects of it. How did you deal with all the temptations?

Find a couple of "go to" distractions. I knit, so in the early days if I thought I was hungry , but wasn't sure, I would knit a couple of rows. If I forgot about it, then I obviously wasn't hungry. The "goal" my doctor set is 5 1/2 hours between meals, meaning I shouldn't be hungry for 5 1/2 hours, I am 16 1/2 months post op, at my goal and still follow this dchedule

Hi, I spent my time watching movies, reading books and also reading a lot on this site and others about everyone's journeys. I found a lot of motivation through others!

I remember noticing how many food advertisements were on TV right after my surgery too! Because I wasn't feeing hungry though it didn't really affect me. When it occasionally did I just turned off the tv and turned to other things like reading, light housework, walking, etc.

It's all about finding the distraction that works for you. Reading, blogging, crafts, etc. Another thing to remember is get your walking in. Whether it be a couple laps around the house or a short walk in the neighborhood.

Take FULL advantage of not being hungry. Everyone asks if it is normal and yes, enjoy it while you can because eventually you will become hungry again (about six weeks for me).

I am only two weeks post op. I still see commercials and crave it and feel bad that I can't have them. But at the same time, I am finding it so hard to get the Protein in. Water is not the issue, but I can't stand the powder protein and the only thing I can tolerate so far is eggs and string cheese. HELP!

I had a very difficult time with the Protein Powder as well. Everything was so "sicky sweet". I finally found Syntrax Nectar - fuzzy navel and drank that mixed with Crystal light lemonade and ice. It was very tasty and such a nice change from the sweet shakes. Try adding Unjury chocolate Splendor to SF pudding or drink it like hot cocoa. Good luck, it does get better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
