Any bike riders out there?

Recommended Posts

One thing I'm looking forward to doing this summer is to buy a bike and start riding again.

At my start weight, let's just say my butt didn't feel very good on those small seats

I still weigh 268lbs right now, and would like to look into getting a bike soon, just wondering, has anybody got a bike and got a bigger seat on it? God, I think I would be so embarrassed to have to ask for one. And, does any bike hold a person who weighs as much as me? Don't want the tires to go flat when I get on it

I have been looking at bikes as well. None of the seats look comfortable. I will be following this thread hoping to learn more. I know I just want a cruising bike, I have no idea how or why to shift gears. lol My last bike had a banana seat and fringe I pulled off because it was too girly.

Lol gibbsgirl, I remember banana seats!! Yes, I just want a cruising bike as well. I'm scared a bike that'll be suitable for me may cost quite a bit though. I see people on those bikes that have those thick fat tires and wonder if that's what I'd need. I don't know, hopefully someone will respond to give us some insight!!

I love riding my bike, although I have to say it takes a little building up to be comfortable in my racing bike- the stupid seat literally bruises my butt and I use a very, very squishy seat cushion that fits over it. I also have a cruiser bike that has a big, giant butt seat, and that is not nearly as bad but it still makes my tail bone a bit sore the first few rides of the season.

Google wide bike seats. I have seen them at Walmart, Dicks....Amazon probably has them too.

Hello to all.

I'm 294 pounds.

I do ride a bike regularly, any seat will be uncomfortable the first couple of weeks (the first 5-8 rides)

I recommend to stick with whatever seat comes with the bike for the first couple of weeks and then start looking.

I used to bike a lot B4 gaining more weight

I used my road bike with no problems at 260

The seat will depend on what kind and distance riding you plan to do.

For short rides on comfort bike the larger seat is OK.

If you plan on road biking and longer rides, you will want a seat sized to you sit bones. If this is your direction, see a helpfull bike shop to guide you.

Either way--enjoy--I love cycling

I used to love to ride my bike when I was in high school a very long time ago.

Riding a bike is definitely something I am looking forward to.

I would think a good bike shop could help you find the right bike for what you want to do and that would be comfortable and the right fit.

Bikes do have weight limits, specially the road ones. Mountain bikes will handle weight pretty good, I myself own a Santa Cruz Bronson double suspension and with 294 pounds do go down the hills pretty fast with no problem

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
