Out of the mouth of babes

So now that I have been in maintenance for a while I have been trying to decide if I am going to pursue plastic surgery. I look relatively decent with clothes on so I haven't thought about it too seriously....

So my four year old niece is spending the weekend with us. While I was changing my clothes she looks at me and says, "Aunt Gee your boobies are soggy looking. You are smaller than my momma but your body is droopier."

Had to laugh out loud so much at that comment.

Guess it's time to think about getting work done... I mean who wants soggy boobies!!!

Oh no! Picturing that coming from a four year old makes me chuckle a bit though. I think we're in the same area...North Florida? If you do decide to consider plastics, check out Dr. Desai. He did a really great job in all of my surgeries and his staff is excellent.

I never thought I would actually have plastic surgery, but I also had soggy boobies and a droopy rest of me and I am so happy I did decide to have surgery. It has made a night and day difference in how I feel. Also, I read a study that found that people who have plastics after bariatric surgery are more likely to keep off the weight they lost than those who don't. While at the time I didn't really see the reason why that would be, in hindsight when you literally cannot peel any fat/ skin off of yourself, I feel like this gives you a huge amount of confidence and more motivation to keep the weight off. I had several procedures done and while I love my new fake chest and my arms and legs, probably the most noticeable change for me was the Tummy Tuck and later the back part of the 360 lift. Most of my life I was either fat or thin so I could always pull a fist full of fat/skin from around my hips and now, I can literally grab maybe an inch, if that.

If you do decide to go with plastics, you will love the results! :)

You gotta love the honesty of a child.

Breast surgery is number #1 on my list. I've had larger than normal breasts since puberty so I'm looking for a combo of reduction and lift. I'm shooting for January.

Just like WLS, plastic surgery isn't for everyone. So ultimately you need to do what is right for you. Best of luck whichever path you choose!

Yep, Dr. Desai's office is at St. Vincent's, but he does surgery at an out-patient facility. Below is the link to his site:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
