Hello everyone!! As like some of you I am just beginning my weight loss journey! I'm super excited but nervous at the same time. My first appointment was in February where I met with the wonderful Dr. Zarif, and met my nutritionist Amy. Amy and I set some goals for me this month and I am excited to see her again. I have to wait 6-7 months before I am able to get the surgery because of insurance. I have started a gym membership and have begun to work out. I am super pumped for this. Anyone have any advice before or after surgery that can help calm down my nerves? Congrats to you all!

Welcome!! It sounds like you're making great steps in the right direction. I also had to wait 6 months prior to my surgery and trust me the time flew by! Prior to surgery I would take time to mentally and physically prepare yourself and loved ones for the major life changes that are about to happen. Also, watch as many YouTube videos as possible. I also followed people on social media to get a feel of what life would be like post op. You'll be on the losers bench soon!

Hang in there, that 6 months flies by. I finished mine the end of January and received approval the middle of February and tomorrow I start my 2 week liquid diet with surgery on 3/21. This is a great place to spend that 6 months to learn all you can from these people who have gone through the process.

Wow I just happen to see this. I but had both Dr Zarif and Amy in December 2015 for VSG. They are great. You will like Angela too! Absolutely no complications! Good luck on your journey!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
