I. Cannot get my insurance to cover my surgery. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my insurance to cover my gastric bypass? I have almost all of the criteria for surgery. I appreciate any help you all give me

Unfortunately some plans just completely exclude it. I am not sure there is much way around it. The only thing I could think of that might even remotely help would be a call from your doctor.

"I have met almost all the criteria for surgery."

Unfortunately the reason why it is not covered is because you are not meeting their criteria, and until you do, you likely will not be covered.

So much depends on what your insurance covers to begin with. Do they cover WLS at all? What are their requirements, and what are you NOT meeting at this point?

So sorry, I know that has to be so frustrating!

My insurance does not cover anything related to weight loss but they will cover diabetes, sleep apnea, degenerative joint disease, HBP, and all of the other related illnesses! My husband and I have decided that my health is worth the investment and the WLS center will work with me on payments.

Generally all insurance covers WLS, it is your employer who decides whether or not to include or exclude WLS. More education needs to be given to employers that they will actually save money in the long run by covering it.

You may want to talk to your HR department and push for them to make an exception for you if you can prove they will spend less in the future.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
