I had a gastric sleeve in Mexico in August 2015 and flew home 2 days later as many do. On September 1 I noticed some weird pain in my upper left chest. I was in the ER with a post op infection so mentioned it to the doctor. I spent 5 days in hospital with the diagnosis of multiple pulmonary embolism (blood clots) in my left lung. I was told it was from flying so soon after surgery without being on any anti clotting medication. Many don't have this problem but discuss with your doctor prior to surgery. I am still on blood thinning medication twice a day and should be finished it in another month.

Overall I am so happy with my surgery. 65 lbs lost in 6 months and another 30 to go. Couldn't be more pleased. I still only eat about 4 oz at a time. I get severe abdominal pain if I eat any more. I can't drink with food or up to 2 hours after eating or the same pain happens but I am learning and eat little and often.

Thank u for the info it's always something added to my list of questions. What was the name of ur doctor in Mexico. My girlfriend texted me last night her docs name dr. Kellys in Tijuana he did her lapband about 8 years ago when her insurance wouldn't pay she lives in California she drove herself right over the boarder for less than 5000. And she said it was the best experience in her life. And she never went back for a fill she recently found a doc in cali that would unfill her a little dr. Kellys apparently put a little fill in. Because she has lost all the weight she wanted and was still losing and I told her to find a doc to unfill a little. She is pleased. I just want some info in case my insurance denies me. I need a revision from my band to sleeve. Thanks again..

And congratulations on your weightloss

So glad you are ok. I wonder why they let you fly so soon after. I have had multiple dvts in my legs. The first so bad I was in hospital for a month. On bloodthinners daily for life after my last one. My family have Factor Verizon genetic predisposition for clots. 2 sisters with either dvt in leg or arm ane one with P.E. Scary stuff. I am getting a bridge of love noxious before and after surgery in April. Doing mine in Calif. as that is where insurance is with Kaiser. My hubby commutes from Utah to San Francisco for work. I am planning on staying in a hotel for couple weeks after til 1st postop. No flying for me. My hubby had shoulder surgery last January and I drove him home after a couple days in hotel. It's a 12 hour drive. Hope you continue to do well!!! Keep moving.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
