Day surgery

I am planning on having my sleeve done probally mid April or May. However when I had my ecg completed I found out that the the sleeve is performed as a day surgery. I have been watching many people experiences on YouTube most were some years ago though. I have yet to hear someone in and out so quickly. So is there anyone else having there sleeve done in such a manner?

I've seen a very few posts about that here. Was this the facility staff who told you this? I would trust what your surgeon says - it's the doctor who determines the length of stay.

I had a same day sleeve surgery, but was planned before hand. I do not recommend it. You need to rest and take a deep breath before starting on your new life's journey.

I'm told an overnight stay is expected. 2 nights max.

I was in for four days,Surgery on a Monday and out Thursday,but that was because of vomiting issues ,otherwise it would have been a Monday through Wednesday stay. Every program seems to be different.

I went to one of the bigger bariatric centers of excellence in my area,and it is often out patient day surgery like mine. The patient can choose to be at the hospital and people over a certain weight are at hospital (equipment weight limit issues).

I stayed the night due to my severe sleep apnea, but it was at a surgical center very near a hospital. We all have our biases, but hospitals are uncomfortable for me (too many loved ones have died there) and have sick people in them so this eased my fears. I had help at home and kind of needed it the first few days,but I think day surgery is a good choice for some. I wouldn't do a single thing different about my surgeon, the location, the whole package.

I wonder if outcomes vary - is the hospital stay of 2 days is safer based on studies???

I think this differs from surgeon to surgeon. I was told I'm having a 1-2 day hospitalization. If you are really uncomfortable with day surgery (and I can see why you would be), try asking your surgeon if you can stay overnight for a day or two. S/he might be willing to accommodate you.

I was just curious. Im not sure how i feel. I am a nurse but I also hate hospitals its impossible to get rest. This of course isn't my area of expertise. But This definitely something to inquire about.

It definitely depends on your surgeon. I was told 1-2 nights. I was in 1, but would have preferred a day surgery. I got zero rest that night and I didn't need any specialized care. I tend to do really well with anesthesia and have high pain tolerance, though.

One reason my surgeon keeps you overnight is because they want you walking every 2 hours for the first 24 hrs. Part of their clot prevention protocol. They also want to be certain you are tolerating liquids.

But they definitely do not want you to get good sleep the night of your surgery. And make that clear up front.

I had my surgery on a Thursday morning and wasn't able to go home till Saturday afternoon. The extended stay was partly my fault because I couldn't drink the required two cups of Water to go home the day after. Looking back, I'm happy I stayed that second night because that was the worst my for me. The doctor will be sure to keep you if needed.
