How long are you planning to take off from work?

Recommended Posts

I'm so glad someone asked this! I had lapband in 2011 but can't remember how much time I took off. I think I took off two weeks, but I remember thinking I could've gone back sooner. Now I'm getting the sleeve Wednesday March 16 and I told work I'd probably be back the following Wednesday. As it gets closer I'm thinking I should've planned for more time off, though I'm fully unpaid. I'm a teacher, but working as a substitute 3 days per week at a school, in a very active role. I'm worried about going back to soon but worried about being without income while I'm gone:( has anyone in a more active job gone back after one week? Or is this completely unrealistic?

I think everyone is different and it depends on the person, pain level, age and all the other factors as well! Good luck!

My date is on the 30th. I wanted to only take a week off too but my doctor said 2 weeks off. I'm scared to ask him to only do 1 week. He's the doctor and he knows best and he's one of those men that is like : I said 2 and 2 is what you'll do! I just put In for 2 weeks off and I'm a teacher too so i sent paperwork in to the district for FMLA. I'm sure if the surgeon says 2 weeks it's for the best. We women think we're Wonder Woman????.

Can someone tell me how to get the surgery countdown and body weight ticker? That is pretty neat.

Have you already had your band removed, or are they doing the removal and revision at the same time? I am having my band removed and sleeve revision in one surgery (that's the plan anyway!) Aiming for the end of July! :) Good luck!!

I got mine in October 2008. I also had a slippage in August 2013 and had it repaired. Should have had the revision done then. Grrrrr!!

I'm taking just shy of 3 weeks and going back on restrictions for another 3-5 weeks. My job can be very physical and my surgeon doesn't want me to be put in a situation where I or someone else gets hurt because I can't perform a necessary safety maneuver.

there are soooooooooo many posts on this exact subject. truth is, it varies person to person. I was back at school for 12 hours 5 days after surgery, shopping 3 days and at work on my 7th day. Other people took more than a month off... it really just depends on your personal rate of recovery, how well you tolerate fluids and your activity level.

I have a desk job and took off 4 weeks. I don't care if you sit at a desk, you just had major surgery and you body physically needs time to heal. There is NO WAY I could have gone back in a few days. I have a high pain tolerance, am very active, and this surgery wiped me out. I couldn't even drink Water properly for a week. I would have rather used my vacation time to heal properly than to have ended up back in the hospital.

I had my revision from band to sleeve last Thursday, March 3rd and have an appointment to remove the drain on Wednesday. My biggest pain, so far, was the gas in my chest and neck Thursday night and Friday. I am having trouble sitting completely upright, due to incisions on my belly roll and the pressure from it. Now bending and twisting is not advised or recommended as I have already tried with poor results. I plan on returning to work, Monday the 14th and will be light duty for up to 6 weeks. My wife says no tractor riding or fishing until Dr approves it. I think I am going to bribe him!! Wish each of you the best with your surgery and speedy recovery to get back to whatever you enjoy!!

My doctor does surgery on Tuesdays. I plan on returning to work the following Monday. I can use short term disability insurance, but it doesn't kick in until the 8th calendar day. Nice to know it's there if I need it, but hoping I won't!

Back at work and uncomfortable!! I haven't been fully dressed in 2 weeks and my stomach is not liking this. My incisions are aching and the incision where the port was removed is leaking from pressure of my rolls folding over. Ugh!! Looks like a half day!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
