Hi Guys!,

so I am 10 days after my surgery and I must say this past week was not easy at all.

First, I had complications during the surgery and was very stressed out. Everything is good now but I have been having those guilty thoughts - i should have probably tried harder on my own....

Anyways, I got my surgery done in Europe where am currently residing and working. Weight-loss surgeries are for free here as long as your BMI is higher than 40. I chose a highly recommended private clinic and I must say my experience with them was simply amazing.

I have read through this board a lot and see there are lots of different things when it comes to diet. There was no pre-surgery diet for me. I only had to follow a meal plan and was even told to splurge a weekend before. But there was no liquid diet prior my op.

After surgery it is a week of liquids, week of blended food and two weeks of soft food. After that, I am going to switch to solid food.< /p>

I was worried it would not work but their success stories speak for themselves...of course, with constant work with the patient. Lots of people slip back to their old ways and gain instead of lose.

Anyways, my doctor is currently on vacation and I am stuck with questions. I know thinds might be different considering am in a different country but I still wanna ask yall.

1. when you were on blended food phase, how big were your portions? I was told 100ml. Does that go for even yoghurts that are usually 120ml?

2. what would happen if your portions would be a bit bigger than 100ml?

3. do you all stick not drinking 1 hour after food? What if its hot outside and 30mins later you are really thirsty?

4. do smoothies dilluted with Water count as a meal?

5. how many times a day do you eat? 5 or 6 times?

6. how big are your portions being on solid food?

Thanks!

Do you have a dietician/nutritionist? They can also help with these questions. I was not specifically told 100ml but I was not able to finish a yogurt so I was likely eating slightly less than a hundred. If you eat too much, you can throw up but it is different for everyone. One day I took my pills and ate right after, it was too much for my little tummy and I puked. My doctor told me after not to eat for around 30 minutes after the pills...lives d learn. I normally stick to 30 minutes after but sometimes can't stand taking liquids in for 1.5 hours. I try to eat 5 times a day but that is because I work with when I have to work. solid food is somewhat dependent on what it is but around 4 tablespoons of food for me.

1 - I never measured my portions. I just filled a bowl halfway with whatever I was eating and ate until I was full and stopped. Usually I ate 1-1.5 cups.

2 - If my portions were too big I stopped eating. You'll know when to stop because it'll probably hurt! If you go to 120 ml and feel fine then it won't be a problem for you.

3 - I don't follow the Water rule... I'm not advising you to do as I do but I really need to drink when I eat or else I don't feel satisfied. I always have a glass of water when I eat meals and sip it between bites. I drink water all day, too, so I don't get too thirsty.

4 - Sure, I don't see why not. As long as they don't cause you stomach pain.

5 - I eat 4-5 times a day. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, and sometimes a small dessert if I really want it.

6 - My portions are roughly 1/3-1/2 of what I used to eat. Last night I had one taco and a cup total of rice and Beans. Used to be able to eat 3 tacos and a cup each of rice and Beans. I eat until I have enough. You'll know because you'll feel pressure in your belly and you won't want to continue eating. It's hard to explain but you'll see what I mean when you start feeling restriction!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
