Having RNY in 2 months looking for advice

Recommended Posts

I am 40 years old and am having RNY in the next couple of months. I have PCOS and auto immune Thyroid disease. I am very excited for surgery as I want to look how I feel inside (does that make sense?) and also regain my health. I am 5'5 and 242lbs. I am wondering if it is normal to be worried about losing too much weight? For vanity purposes I do not want to have loose skin etc. I have a good muscle tone so I feel like I will be fine. I know the health benefits far out weigh anything else however, it is a concern. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

some people lose too much weight, but most don't. From what I can tell on these boards, it seems like a lot of people settle at their ideal weight or a few pounds above.

yes - you might have loose skin. It's very common. I worried about it as well. But I can tell you that it's totally worth every inch of loose skin and every lost hair. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't worry about loose skin or losing hair *at all*. Losing all that weight *far* outweighs that.

I was much older and heavier than you when I had my surgery and I do have loose skin and had to kind of reign in my weight loss at the end because I just kept loosing and I didn't want to go any lower (now I WISH I had that problem!). The skin issue is real - but I weighed over 300 pounds, and was 48 years old. For vanity reasons I hate it, but when I look in the mirror it also is a constant reminder of how far I have come. As far as loosing too much weight, I lost until my BMI was in the 'normal' range and then worked to increase my calorie intake until I stopped loosing. Your body changes over time. What you can eat and how much you can eat also changes - even with surgery. This surgery SAVED MY LIFE and I would do it again in a heartbeat - it is by far the best decision I ever made for myself. The journey however does not end when you reach your goal. Maintenance is still a lifelong commitment and daily struggle.

Best of luck with your surgery! Happy loosing!!

Carol

Does your name mean that you are in Minnesota? I am just slightly older than you and heading toward 4 months post op. I carried most of my weight in my abdomen so I already have loose skin. I am finding though that especially with my chicken wings, weight lifting and exercise are making a huge difference in how loose the skin is. I don't believe exercise is going to completely solve the loose skin issue for me, but the more it helps the better.

Loose skin is always a possibility with any WLS. Loosing to much weight isn't a typical issue with WLS as the majority of people usually settle in at their goal weight.

Try not to fixate on these concerns and concentrate on how much better you'll feel without the excess weight on your body.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
