WLS Made Me A Liar!

Recommended Posts

Oh yea..I lie all the time now...well, when it comes to my weight

Are you losing weight?

Me: No, my clothes shrunk in the dryer, its tighter so makes me look thinner (lie)

How are you losing so much weight?

Me: Oh god, I live in the gym. I exercise 7 days a week, glad its paying off (lie)

Thats all you eat?

Me: Yea, not that hungry, Water filled me up (lie)

You drink a lot of water!

Me: Oh I love water! (Biggest b.s lie)

Lies, lies, lies...but really I'd rather lie than to tell my business and be criticized and hear negative comments people have to say about having wls.

I'm in the same boat

hang in there!

The truth is, you are reducing portion sizes, drinking more Water, and eating healthier, and all of that goes into your weight loss!

no need for shame, and no need for anyone you don't want to to know the decision you made to change your life.

I'm not lying, exactly, but now that my leave of absence has been announced, several of my colleagues have asked me "are you OK?". I've just told them "I'm fine. I just have a little something I need to take care of. Thanks for asking."

I never ate huge amounts before. And my only coworker who knows helped. He always made announcements like "that's all you're eating? I swear this woman never eats." I don't know if it was intentional but it made it alot easier to not draw attention when I came back from surgery.

I also started trying to lose weight about 2 months before so I was already losing a substantial amount of weight before hand too

I wish someone at my work noticed I've even lost weight! I've lost 65lbs and not one person at my work has said a thing. It's very disappointing and kinda ticks me off to be honest. I will never tell them I had surgery, but it would be nice to be noticed

Chin up! I was 75 pounds down before anyone noticed. Then they wouldn't shut up about it. Sigh.

Wow! Really? That's crazy it took 75lbs for people to notice! I guess I just feel like I'm not doing as well as I think I am when no one says anything

When asked I just say I'm eating a whole lot less and moving a whole lot more which is the truth. [emoji6]

I'm going to tell people I was abducted by aliens, and had tests performed on me. Just for fun.

I don't consider protecting my privacy or sanity a lie. You shouldn't either. People ask too many invasive questions.

Believe it or not people do notice but just wont say say anything. There's those who are envious of others success and don't want you to know whatever your doing is working because your looking great, or there's those who actually keep their opinions/comments to themselves until curiosity starts killing them and they just have to know what your doing. But there's also some very clueless ones out there who wont notice anything even if its dying your hair from blonde to blue

Try not to let it get to you. You did this for YOU, right? Not them. You know you are losing and I bet you feel good about it too. You SHOULD! You DESERVE IT!!

Now, to be honest with you, I had barely started losing when we went out on summer break, so most of my colleagues didn't notice either. I kept telling myself all those things and more just to feel better. Then we came back to work in September and I had lost a TON of weight. Teachers I have worked with for 15+ years didn't recognize me. It was very uncomfortable and very disturbing. Everyone was commenting ALL THE TIME. I couldn't leave my room with out someone saying something ... even students. I think that perhaps if they had seen me lose over time it would have been easier to take. I wouldn't have had nearly as many questions or comments, and I probably would have been more comfortable with things that were said.

I guess the grass is always greener ...

Good Luck & keep remember that you notice and that is the most important person!

You're right workinonme, I lost over 100lbs about 9 years ago, and my weight loss was the only thing people talked to me about. It was kinda frustrating....and even more frustrating when I gained it all back within months.

So maybe staying anonymous for now is a good thing

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
