My name is Andrea, I'm 38 and I live in the Northern Massachusetts area.

I was banded on 7/23/07 @ Lahey Clinic

Thus far, I'm feeling really great! I had a lot of pain in my left shoulder during the first week... but moving around and using heat on it made it feel better. I still get an ocassional 'tweak' there, but it's bearable. I'm very much looking forward to being able to hit the treadmill and elliptical machine next week! Getting back into a fitness program (pre surgery) made me realize how much I enjoyed and missed exercising. I've gotten the 'green light' to start some light weight training once I reach 6 weeks out... I want to keep as toned as possible while I lose the weight!

The board looks like a great place to get information, share stories and recipes, and ask questions. I'm planning on making it a daily stop!

Cheers!

HI Andrea!

Welcome to LBT & Congratulations on your band!!

Sounds like you are off to a great start. I love the elliptical machine too. I have found exercise to be the best way to relieve stress. I wish you a speedy recovery so you can quickly get back to your regular exercise routine!

I was banded a lil over 3 weeks ago and I to have leared fast that the eliptical is my friend!!! I was so happy when my docter gave me the green light to do pretty much whatever I wanted, unless it hurt obviously!! I'm sure you too will get to that point too.

Hey Staindgal!

No Dr. Dietrick is not performing my surgery. I am having it done by Dr. Murr @ Tampa General Hospital

Are you still considering LapBand Surgery?

I haven't found anyone on this site that has used my Dr. either but I met a lot of people @ the Seminar & Support Group that has used him and been very pleased w/their results.

Yeah, I'm still researching it... I would like to NOT have the procedure... Simply because I don't like pain, and I want to try to do this naturally first...

There just doesn't seem to be many people on here from Florida in general! Maybe that's because most BCBS of FL plans won't cover it?? I dunno!!!

I can completely understand wanting to lose the weight naturally if you can. Is this your first attempt @ weight loss? For me I have lost and gained the same 70 pounds too many times to mention. So the band is just the tool I need to finally stop the yo-yo cycle.

Have you done a search on some of the other Lap band forums to see if you can find others who have used your doctor before? There are a lot of other lap band forums online.

Yeah... this is my first ever real attempt at losing weight... I'm not sure why is took me 3 years of being obese to decide to try and lose weight... but here i am!!

I think I will look around some other forums, because honestly this is the only one I have been on!!! Thank you!!!:)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
