Is this really starting?

Recommended Posts

I went to my first nutrition appointment on 2/18. I have my consulation with the surgeron on 3/8. I am scared and I keep wondering am I making the right choice. I have alot of worries that are not just about the surgery itself. I am worried about will I be able to lose the required weight loss before the surgery so my insurance will pay? Will I be able to sustain the diet I need to afterwards? How will I cook for my daughter and maintain my diet? Will the surgery effect my marriage? I am going to start to see a therapist because of some of these emotions, but I just can't believe I have all these thoughts already and I haven't even seen the surgeron yet. Does this mean I am not ready? I want this, and I am want it bad. I have been thinking about it since my daughter was born 6 years ago...I am just scared how this will impact everything. Am I alone in these feelings?

You'd be crazy if you weren't thinking about these things! This surgery is extremely high on the list of "life-altering events" and as such should never be taken lightly. But you know yourself and your life, you know the struggles you've faced and you know what you need to do for yourself to live the life you want. It's going to be scary. It's going to be downright terrifying to change your life this drastically. But it's also going to be exhilarating, liberating, and incredible. If you're wondering how this will impact your life and the lives of your loved ones, that answer is: overwhelmingly, chances are everyone's life is going to change for the better.

Good luck! We're all here to help. Keep us posted. ^_^

It is a bit overwhelming. I am 34 months post-op RNY and I consider the surgery to be one of the best decisions I ever made. I wrote a short article about my experiences. Here is a link.

I felt the same way before my surgery. Almost cancelled it! But I'm glad I didn't. As far as how you will feed your daughter I had the same concerns. In the beginning obviously I had to make her own meals while I was on the liquid and puree diet however now I have her eating like I am, just larger portions. Kids are never to young to start good eating habits. She didn't like some of the food at first but she is now very willing to try different things and is finding things that she likes! It is a big deal and a big change but just take it one step at a time and you will find it to be doable. Good luck!

@@smpruitt I would say if anything that its a very GOOD sign that you're mulling over all of these things now. It shows that you're not going in blindly with rose colored glasses. You not only know whats involved and what the possible downsides are, but you are actively giving them thought rather than pushing them out of your mind because you'd rather not think about it. That, to me, shows readiness, not a lack of it. This is a really big thing, and a lot of people are never 100% sure - this doesn't mean they shouldn't proceed if they know its whats best for them.

You are ready and I KNOW you can lose the weight to get this surgery. You have been there for and with me the whole time I have been getting ready for this and you know what it entails. You aren't going in alone and we are gonna do this together.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
