Food for Travel

Recommended Posts

I am flying in April to Florida (I like to plan ahead) for a wedding and then going to Disney World for a few days. What foods should I take? Or do I need to take food? I usually don't travel without backup like Protein bars/beef jerky/etc. I haven't been to Disney since I was 5, so can't remember much and things are different now. Any tips/recommendations would be great!

I would definately pack some Protein Bars, shakes and jerkey just in case you have a hard time for some of your meals.

I have not been there in years but what I do remember was overly expensive junk everywhere. This way you can have a few good quality options handy.

I hope you have a great time!

I took a trip to Arizona earlier this year and brought individual packets of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder and Quest Protein Bars with me. I did this mostly because I had a large supply on hand and room in my suitcase.

I was able to buy everything else (Jerky, almonds, etc.) at local stores in Phoenix. As long as you have access to a car in Florida, you should be able to pick up your supplies locally.

I went to Disney World 2 years ago with my mother and daughter. There is lots of junk food everywhere, but there are places where you can get fresh fruit and veggies. For restaurants it depends on where you go to eat. You can look at the menus online before you go and make choices before you get there. We ate at the Beasts castle for lunch on my birthday, and I was able to get the menu online and knew what I wanted before we arrived. I am still pre-op, and my only thought during that vacation was to enjoy myself, so I didn't pay that close attention to the food choices other than to go "Yum!" I would def take some Snacks to back you up between meals.

We go to Disney World frequently. Make sure to take Protein bars as a back up, but there are a lot of healthy options. If you don't like what one place offers, walk 50 feet and you will have all new options. Lots of protein and veggie options.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
