Still in pain, dizzy, and worried

I had gatric sleeve 13 days ago and have been feeling very dizzy and still have pain throughout the day. I am taking tylenol every 4-6 hours as I had some very harsh side effects to the pain medication prescribed. I am worried about my symtoms and i am scheduled to return back to work monday, march 7th. Can anyone tell me how lomg it took them to recovery before going back to work? I am really worried about getting dizzy while traveling to work as my commute is 1.5 hours. Any advice?

Call your doctor. You should be still a little uncomfortable still but not in pain. Most important, you shouldn't be dizzy--this is probably from dehydration or your blood pressure. You definitely shouldn't be driving if you are dizzy.

I had extremely low blood pressure after my surgery and had to postpone my return to work. I went back to work at 3 weeks once my blood pressure was better. I still felt a little weak at that point but able to commute to work and do my desk job.

I was thinking that it might be my blood pressure. It is usually high and i have forgotten to take my Water pill during these days. I am not sure if i if u m drinking enough water... I am scheduled to see my surgeon tomorrow morning.

I would definitely talk to your surgeon ASAP. You shouldn't be in pain still. Uncomfortable? Yes. Tired? Yes. Emotional? Yes. Pain? NO!

@@LMSWNYC - don't be surprised if they need to take you off the BP meds. Mine dropped enough after about 20-25lbs that I was breaking them in half, because my BP was too low.

I too have had to cut my BP in half and some days, quarters. I need to be able to function! You will also get a low BP reading if you're dehydrated.

I think your dizziness is from the medicines you're taking. I was sleeved a week ago but I never felt dizzy.

I had a very difficult time dealing with this issue for months after surgery. And to be honest, it still appears sometimes now a year later. I was literally a walking zombie after surgery until they took me off my BP meds. That helped quite a bit. But what really helped was becoming acutely aware of my Fluid intake and regular checking of my BP.

Go to Walmart or a Meijer or whatever and buy a blood pressure cuff. They have battery operated ones that are fairly accurate. When you are feeling dizzy, check your BP. Then get at least 32 oz of Fluid in you as quickly and comfortably as you can. Wait 20 min and check it again. I'll bet it was lower when dizzy than after the fluid.

I am just now able to get 100 oz of fluid a day. If I don't get close to that, I can get dizzy pretty easily when standing up.

The pain is specifically in my belly button area it feels like something is burning inside that is why i continue to take tylenol. I am going to try my best today to monitor my Water intake. I am scheduled to see my doctor tomorrow morning.

One of your incisions might be infected--make sure to mention it to you doctor ; I know I had one incision inside my belly button--the one that took the longest to heal. I think you said you are seeing your doctor today? --I think mentally you'll feel alot better after he can diagnose what's causing your symptoms and within a few days of following his instructions, you'll feel back to your normal self. The first 3-4 weeks are really overwhelming--both physically and emotionally but I promise this journey will be amazing. keep us updated --Lisa

Thanks All! I met with my surgeon today and he determined i was dehydrated. My blood pressure was also high which was another factor which was causing me to feel dizzy. The surgeon explained that i might be feeling pain because my wound is still healing. He said he was not worried because my incisions were healing well. I have lost 20 pounds since pre-op diet, ten since surgery date so this might also be affecting my body. My surgeon recommended I take an extra week to help my body heal. Plus i should not be traveling if i am having dizzy spells. My surgeon gave me confidence that i was on the right track. I am hopeful that I will be feeling better to return to work by next week. I am looking forward to getting back into my normal activities.
