How sore should we be?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on July 20th and I can feel some soreness around the plug area. Especially after sitting all day at work. Is this normal?

My port area was tender for about the first year, not that it hurt all the time, but if I leaned against something or was sitting in a certain position for a long time. As long as you aren't swollen/red or having problems I would say it is fine. If it still concerns you, then check with your doctor.

Personally I had more irritation around my incesions on my stomach then my port. My port bugged me is when I first started trying to lay on my side, cause I could feel it. Also when I first went back to work, due to it being at the same level as my desk, I fixed that though my readjusting my chair. Now though, I'm used to it so I can't even tell its there (it's been 3 weeks) I'm sure everyone's plus isn't in the exact same spot, since all of our bodies are different. So haveing some soreness after sitting all day is normal for you more then likely. Maybe try adjusting your chair or try to get up and more and walk around a bit while in the office. Just remember things can only get better from here!! Good Luck!

Hi Carlasue4

I was informed by my dietician and surgeon that I will feel uncomfortable in the first 2 weeks especially sitting down. That is why I have to have 2 weeks off work. The port and the swelling from the band do take some getting used to as I have been told. Also after reading other threads this seems to be pretty normal. Maybe every hour do a block around the office just to stretch.

Cheers Jo

I was banded on August 1st. I was sore the first 2 days. It is getting better each day. I think it will all go away after the first week or two.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
