Aqua Zumba

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new to exercise and have ankle and knee pain, so I signed up for an Aqua Zumba class thinking that it would be easier on my joints. Curious if anyone else has tried or has any experiences to share.

Thanks in advance.

See if you can do it in deep Water and/or let the instructor know about your joint issues.

I LOVE Water exercise, but still need to make sure it's low impact so I only do deep water. If I wind up in a shallow water class I have to be really careful.

I've been doing Aqua Zumba for over a year. I have joint issues as well. It's perfect for that!!! Plus, it's a lot of fun. I love it!

I've only done one class but being a swimmer, I kept getting too cold. I'm used to something a bit more vigorous and I lost weight.

I started wearing a long-sleeved rashguard. It helps keep my arms and shoulders warm. I even wear my swim cap in Water aerobics class to keep my head warm.

They had talked to me about something like that, but it makes it harder to try and do all the strokes. I do a lot of IM work.

If you have the right instructor you will be on fire in the pool doing Aqua Zumba, no chance of being cold. I used to sweat buckets. If you are cold in the pool, I would probably find something else to do, because it isn't working you out hard enough.

I love aqua zumba and I lost a lot of weight doing it several years ago.

It is so instructor dependent, the quality and energy of the trainer really matters. I won't waste my time trying it again unless I get a personal recommendation from someone young and active. A good class with a good instructor is like dancing for an hour at a club in Miami, a bad instructor is just like doing Water aerobics, snooze city.

I wear mine all the time but if you want something you can take off they do have zippered jackets that would be easier to take on and off.

Other people do get a good workout. If you are used to a full body workout and are of normal weight, no matter how fast you do it, you aren't working everything like you do swimming. Ask a swimmer - one who competes.

There's no way you can practice sets like that though, taking stuff on and off. You can't just stop in the middle and say oh I have to take this off, especially when you don't use the outer lanes.

I swim with a rashguard. I am not fast and don't compete so I don't mind a bit of drag. As far as I am concerned it it adds resistance its a good thing.

All I can suggest is to try it and see what you think.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
