Anxious now that 6 mos doc visit is up

Recommended Posts

Hey has anyone gotten very anxious towards the end of their 6 months supervised doc visit? It's on Thursday and then next week the sleep study and then it's go time with the insurance. I'm so anxious and excited at the same time. Like I felt when I was little and it was December and it's almost Christmas.

I guess because I know that it's almost time and I'm getting close.

I'm only 3 months into the 6 month diet/exercise. I have had all of my appointments/evaluations. Did an Oxygen study at home last night. Waiting to hear back to see if I need to do the sleep study or not. Where are you from in VA? I just moved to NC 1.5 years ago from Harrisonburg, VA. I would have never even considered WLS if I hadn't moved here. I am still in the "Whatever" mode right now because I know it will still be awhile yet. Just trying to keep myself busy. Good luck to you!

I"m in Richmond area. Good to see another Virginian. Yeah I was in the whatever mode at first and then I got more excited. My 6 month supervised doc visit ended today. Yeah keeping busy eases the anxiousness I've notice. Good luck to you, as well

I'm also in the RVA area and on my last requirement to meet criteria. Good luck! It seems that everytime I goto my PCP for the supervised diet, they're clueless on what I need them to do.

Question!

Your 6-month appts, were they all 30 days apart? I have a few months we went back into that were longer and on random days.

Thanks!

I'm in the last month of my 3 month supervised diet. They'll submit for insurance approval on May 2nd. I do have to have a repeat Endoscopy at the end of April. Surgeon found an ulcerated area in my small intestine and a large hiatal hernia. On my meds now for the ulcer. Hope they work as no surgery for me with an ulcer. I'm trying not to stress too much about that, especially since stress is bad for ulcers! On the plus side, I've lost 27 lbs on my own so far.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
