I am three months out and tried a low sugar oatmeal this morning. I added some blueberries as I had tried those before without a problem. But I am still paying for Breakfast over three hours later. My pouch feels awful...like it's coming up the esophagus and just sitting there. I guess it's the "stuck" pain that people talk about. And maybe I ate it too fast. There was plenty of liquid to help it go down. But...sigh...i hate this part of having the surgery. :( I guess it's all in the "learning curve" though. I am very happy with the weight loss and I feel great, otherwise! Yesterday i went out for lunch with my daughter to Boston Market and had a drumstick off of her "1/2 chicken" plate. I took the skin off and the chicken went down just fine and tasted great. I ordered an extra side of mashed potatoes and gravy and ate about 1/3 of that. So eating out is becoming more doable. I brought the leftovers home and had them for dinner. I'm looking forward to trying a salad but I'm not sure I'm ready. It's scary to try new foods....because if they do "get stuck," it's so very uncomfortable! :(

That happens to be sometimes. I remember the first time it happened to me was with refried Beans on the puréed stage. No fun.

I do notice it happens when I eat too fast though

Yeah, right now on the first liquid phase it's so weird taking a half hour to drink a half cup of Protein Shake, half cup of yogurt and maybe a pudding.... I guess I'll be doing that yoga style eating when I switch to puree on Thursday (thank god), in other words "chewing" like 20/25 times each bite... after a lifetime of literally inhaling food this is a needed and healthy change. Like some above said, thanks so much for walking through this and sharing this info with us

Happened to me today with a boiled egg. I don't know what I was thinking! It got stuck in my chest and I threw it up. Won't be doing that again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
