How Do You Know When It Doesn't Go Down?

Recommended Posts

Probably a silly question - but I just got banded Monday. I'm still sore and feeling a little weird, but I can't tell if you know something isn't going down. Is it pressure - I'm having a lot of that?

Becky42 you will fell some pain and pressure mid chest if something does not go down and believe me you will know it. Pressure is pretty normal but when you feel the pain you will know that something is stuck. I knew it right a way the first time I got something stuck and had to pb to get it out. It was scary also. Sometime when i eat to fast my band tells me by causing pressure and a little discomfort in my chest that is when i stop eating for about 5 min untill it passes. My band it teaching me how to eat slowly very slowly that was one of my worst problems. Good luck with your band

Thanks Tyanna. It looks like you're doing great!

I have felt the pressure mid-chest. I was a little concerned because I didn't think it would be that high. It happens mostly when I'm drinking. I think I have to work on drinking slower.

Becky42

Try drinking all of your liquids through a straw. You can't gulp if you are drinking through a straw.

Good luck with your band :)

If you were banded four days ago, are you doing more than drinking? I mean, are you actually eating???

And yes, you'll truly know. The pressure you feel is likely whatever you have ingested sliding through the swollen opening that the band creates. It's normal so early I think to feel something like that.

DON'T drink through a straw!!!!!!!!!!!! You will swallow air with the liquid and believe me - you'll learn quickly about the discomfort. Plus air expands the pouch in a bad way. That was in the "never use again" column from my surgeon.

I am having a pain in my stomach/chest area that is coming and going. I was just banded last week and I am on full liquids. Most of them are shakes. Can it be that I am drinking them to fast? It usually takes me 10 mins to finish 4-5 oz.

only4me...you could be taking too big a swallow. Your system is pretty delicate right now so you want to really baby it. Sometimes you will get a discomfort/pain in mid-chest which only stays for a minute or two and then you will feel the release as it goes down. Try sipping a little less. You will loosen up probably in about two weeks time (at least I did), but initially you will have wonderful restriction...I am assuming from the swelling left over from surgery...and you'll really need to be watchful of how quickly and how much you swallow.

kacee- thanks for the response. I did call my MD and they said that I most likely was drinking to much in a sip and it was causing esophogeal spasms. I have since been taking it really slow and things have improved.

Hi I was banded on Monday the 6th.

I have been having trouble with pain ,saliva, foam.

I do no more than 3 ozs. an hour of clear liquids. I feel at times that nothing is going thru the hole. I had no fill at surgery. Right now I fell

that if this is what restriction is the I dont ever want any fill.

Can someone reasure me thas is normal? How long should it take to get 3 ozs, of Fluid thur the band? It seems it takes me at least 3 hours. I thought fluids slipped right thur. I am having a hard time getting my Protein in.

Thanks for any reassurance you can give me,

wc_ lady.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
