I'm 2 weeks out from my sleeve and hiatal hernia repair and continue to have this gnawing pain in my left shoulder and frequently between my shoulder blades. I'm still on the 3 weeks post op liquid diet...and feeling hungry .

The shoulder pain sounds like gas. Try some GasX strips and try walking more... even if it's just marching in place. That helped a lot with my gas pain.

The "hunger" could be acid. Are you on a PPI?

I'm 2 weeks out...? Still gas pain. Yes .I am on a PPI in am and take Pepcid complete in pm for that reason. I evidently had a pretty significant hernia and am wondering if that is my source of discomfort.

I got out and walked. Another thing that helps is when you start to feel the pain come on, take the deepest breath you can and hold it. Eventually the pain start to recede.

Yes, it could be gas or, or, or, or.....

If you're in pain enough that it is really bothering you, CALL YOUR SURGEON.

That's what after care is all about.

Every patient has the right to be pain free as much as the pain is manageable.

Don't guess. Go find out, so you can address it and get rid of it.

Take care and be kind to yourself. You're the only "self" that you have.

Prayers going up for you.

If your stomach is producing a ton of acid it feels like hunger pain, but is really just excess acid.

Excess acid can cause "rumbling" and "gurgling" that many people mistake for hunger. The truth is, most of us don't know or recognize what REAL hunger feels like.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I am 7 weeks post op and also had a large hiatus hernia repair. I also had horrendous pain in my left shoulder that didn't fully go away for about 2 weeks. The point is, it will go away!! GasX did nothing for me, I walked as much as I could.

I know exactly how you feel, but things will get better!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
