How long til I can drive?

Does anyone know how long it will be until I can drive...I also would like info about what Vitamins I need to purchase. I'm 3 weeks pre-op and I'm just trying to get everything ready

My surgeon says you can drive once off pain meds. I only took pain meds to sleep the first 2 nights at home, so had no issues driving.

Most drs say when you are off narcotics. I drove on the 2nd and 3rd day.

Driving depends on a couple things

How long you take your Prescription pain meds when you are released from the hospital. You cant drive under the influence. I took my pain meds for about 4 days at home (6 days post op)

Restrictions from your doctor. I couldn't drive for 2 weeks post op.

Vitamins..

A chewable Calcium and Multivitamin. (Can not be a gummy) I use Centrum Vitamints and Viactiv chocolate

My surgeon had no driving restrictions, other than that I was no longer taking the prescription pain meds. I don't think I drove for 2 weeks, though, simply because I was off work and didn't need to. I wouldn't recommend driving on a long road trip for a few weeks, until your incisions have healed up some, if you can help it. I did a 3-hour drive to the shore about 3 weeks after surgery, and it was a bit uncomfortable. It's not going to hurt anything, per se, but it's uncomfortable.

I take a Centrum adult chewable Multivitamin every evening, and a Bariatric Advantage 500 mg chewable calcium citrate in the morning. Technically, I should do two of the Calcium supplements, but I had concerns about increased risk of heart disease linked to calcium supplements (my dad has heart failure and recently underwent a triple bypass)--I talked it over with my surgeon, and while he thinks the risk of heart disease is very low, he also thinks that the benefit of calcium supplements for sleeve patients is negligible, and my labs are good, so he OK'ed me just taking one a day.

My hospital offered to let me drive home, since I hadn't taken pain meds that day. I was surprised, but declined as I had a driver.

I think that I drove after I had been home for 3 days. I made sure to not venture too far from home as I found myself dizzy and didn't want that to impair my driving.

I'm 7 days post op and drove for the first time on Saturday. My only restriction was to be off pain meds, which was no problem...I was off by Friday.

I could have driven the day after surgery. Felt fine and was not on any pain meds. But I was in TJ, so not driving had nothing to do with surgery . I drove myself home from the airport - 6 hour drive - on day 3 and 4. I had to stop and get a hotel that first day because it was a white out blizzard and the roads were pure ice. Wishing I was back in sunny TJ!
