Hi! I am from SC and I am all ready for my sleeve surgery. I am 5 days into my 2wk diet and my surgery is set for March 9. 1pm I am so excited but a little nervous of the unknown changes that will occur. Anybody have any tips on the "no food, only liquids" the day before surgery?

Welcome and good luck! You will do fine. It's not that hard to follow the liquid diet. I had a 2 week pre-op diet but only the second week was liquid only. I had no problems with it. You probably won't as well. Just realize that every time you feel like eating that you drink something or eat broth, sugar free Jello or a sugar free popsicle. That's how I managed.

Soon you will be with us on the other side!

Thanks proud2beme! I am really looking forward to my surgery date. I only have to do all liquids 1 day before surgery, I definitely don't feel so bad now if you had to do a whole week. I have heard 2wks after surgery is all liquid but that even that is hard because your just not interested. Did you experience that after surgery?

I had 10 days pre-op liquids only, two days Clear Liquids in the hospital, one week full liquids at home, a week and a half of purees, two weeks of soft foods, and then regular cooked foods at one month.

If you have one day pre-op liquids only, you are one of few. The phases will be over before you know it.

Thanks Miss Mac. I am half way thru my no carb /sugar diet today. I had preop last Fri and from the time I officially weighed in at doc I lost 12 lbs. I weighed today and I am down 8 more. Oddly enough I can't tell. Next Tues is my all liquid day prior to surgery, that may be tough. I can't imagine your plan. How are you doing now? Are you glad you did it?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
