Tired but cant get good sleep

Recommended Posts

Hello to all,

:help:I am new to this forum and I am curious if anyone else has had this problem. I take vitams, watch what I take in, and try to get 6-8 hours of sleep a night but I am still tired. I can't make it passed 2pm without nodding. What can i do? How do you guys get all of the info(BMI,weight loss) on your post?

Do you snore? If you are always tired I would recommend seeing your primary care doc and maybe have a sleep study done. You may have sleep apnea.

+1 on the sleep study. You're describing the classic symptoms of interrupted sleep patterns. Many obese people require CPAP assistance to get a good night's sleep.

Hey Guys...I need to chime in here too. I had my surgery 11 days ago...and for the last 3-4 days...I have been having sleep issues too. I comfortably sleep w/a CPAP. My issue is, frankly, I feel like my brain will not shut off and some of the evenings have felt jittery. I can feel I need to fall asleep...but my body just does not turn off. I've been doing everything exactly as my Dr. instructed...and the only new med I'm on is Lexapro. Could that be doing it? I've never been on an antidepressant before.

As always....your insights are appreciated.

Take care,

Bud

Glad to hear I'm not the only one battling insomnia. My doc prescribed trazedone (antidepressant) for use at night to help with sleeping. It has helped somewhat. Benedryl has also been helpful.

Hang in there!

Jim

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
