Is this diet possible for pre-surg Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Of course. It's actually a very easy and generous preop diet compared to mine. What part are you thinking isn't possible?

pretty much, although it seems different doctors and hospitals do different things of the same variation. My doctor wanted an all liquid Protein diet before surgery to help shrink the liver, clear out my system, boost my bodies ability to heal and decrease my chances of bleeding during & after surgery. Some people only had to do this 2 days, or none at all so it really depends. I'm glad I did the 2 weeks, I feel great and it prepared me for the liquid diet after the surgery

Mine was 2 weeks 3 Protein shakes/day and leafy green veggies. (Kale, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, etc). Lost 22 pounds and had a complication-free, pain free surgery and recovery.

I'd say either go to the other diet or find a different Protein shake....there's dozens out there with extreme variations of ingredients, taste and palatability. 5 shakes a day is a lot, but you'll have to find some thing that works for postop anyways. What can't you stomach about them?

It is very hard bit it's also training you for post surgery because your going to be on liquids again while your belly heals. You, Your NUT & Dr need to be on the same page and have a plan that you can be successful at. No one wants to fail. Good luck to ya!!

Try changing shakes to a flavor you like, try adding Protein bars 1 or 2x a day and if anything be open and honest with your doctor, they know how to help

I've tried vanilla, strawberry and Cookies & Cream Bariatric Advantage. Oh I even had a sample of the chocolate whey Protein mix. I've been mixing fruit, Peanut Butter etc, the after taste us killing me. So that's one thing I'm afraid of Post-Op "I'm not going to be able to drink and I might make myself sick"

Try Syntrax nectar or Isopure. They are more like koolaid rather than a milk shake. A lot of people like Premier that's available in most grocery stores as well as costco and Sam's. I dilute all RTD shakes with milk or Water and use twice as much liquid as what the powders called for. Otherwise they were just too thick and sweet for me.

Personally I hated Bariatric Advantage. They got a two thumbs down in my taste testing experiments. Those and Isopure were by far my least favorites and wouldn't drink them if you paid me. I really like Syntrax, Premier, muscle Milk, Spirutein, unjury, syntha6, body fortress and Quest. Some flavors of Jay Robb were good, too. Taste and preferences are individual, so just keep trying new ones. You can get samples of dozens of Protein powders from Nashua Nutrition

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
