Embrace it...

It could be with you for some time...

I've just gone a year out and I get then all the time...

It could be worse - I'd prefer hiccups to heartburn or indigestion...

I know this is minor, but its super annoying. I get the hiccups so easily now! How common is this?

I had my surgery on 2/23 and when they started me drinking I had Horrible hiccups (several in row). I read up on it, and it seems like hiccups aren't uncommon, and for some people it means they are full if they have 1 hicupp or even a burp.

Since the bad hiccups, I've been trying to slow down (which is super hard for me), I haven't gotten multiple in a row...but I have got one big one (or a burp) after drinking liquids (I'm on the clear liquid diet), and I'm treating that as an "I'm full", slow down on the drinking.

True, I'd rather hiccups over heartburn any day!

I get the heartburn too :( Not horrible, but enough to be annoying.

For me hiccups are a signal that I have eaten too much or too fast. Try taking tiny bites, eating slowly, and chewing thoroughly. You will start to get a feel for what it means for you to be satisfied.

Hiccups, burps, and/or a runny nose are pretty common.

I do stop eating if I get the hiccups, I'm only on the pureed stage so chewing isn't really an option for me, but I do eat slowly and take small bites. I already get that feeling of being satisfied.

The key is learning to stop before you get the hiccups. It just takes time to get a hang of it.

I get the burp, hiccup, and the watery eyes and I'm only on liquids...it's tough to get all the liquids in. I guess the next learning curve is when I get to the pureed stage.

It will also improve as the swelling goes down.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
