Wishing others would "lounge"

I'm only 19 months post-op. I've been in maintenance mode for almost a year now and can tolerate all foods. It's turned out to be true (for me, at least) that since my sleeve has healed and I've learned how to navigate maintenance there's nothing I used to love that is off the menu now.

I eat 1700 - 2000 cals/day in the form of three meals and a couple of small Snacks. So my food choices when I eat out are much more varied than when I was just a few months post-op.

I drink (sloooowly!) a glass of wine when we eat out, but don't drink any Water or non-caloric beverages.

When eating out, I avoid (for capacity reasons) bulky veggies and (for low-nutrition reasons) breads and potatoes. Rarely, hubby and I share a dessert -- which means that when he orders dessert I have a couple of bites of his dessert.

Some of the vets say that in the coming years capacity will increase. Others say it won't. So what that means to me is that I just have to remain mindful and be responsible for what and how much I put in my mouth for the rest of my life.

I would like to meet the ones that are 5 years out and don't have any increased capacity.... rules to the game are that they can't be in reflux hell either.

I hit 4 years in December, and most definately have an "increased capacity" and I think everyone should expect that to happen eventually - lucky them if it doesn't.

I have been contemplating the whole "does the sleeve stretch" debate and thinking about starting a post on that very subject after I discuss it with the bariatric doctor. I would love to engage longer term (longer term than me!) in this discussion. I don't know if the sleeve stretches or not, but I do know that many people experience increased capacity.

BTW, i know a lady who had gastric bypass about 10 years ago. She is still quite heavy and she eats more than I do at setting (when we go out) so I don't believe this is a surgery specific thing - i am thinking it is more a time combined with behavior thing (assuming original surgery was done correctly and there is no retained fundus or other error etc)

Some of the vets say that in the coming years capacity will increase. Others say it won't. So what that means to me is that I just have to remain mindful and be responsible for what and how much I put in my mouth for the rest of my life.

@@CowgirlJane ... I know a couple of folks over on "the other GS forum" who say they still have very strong capacity four years out. I'll have to go look their names up when I have more time than right now.

No hurry... I won't be going in for awhile.

Essentially I was challenged by a remark made "lots of sleeves stretch, I don't know why you don't acknowledge it"

So, I have been thinking about my own experiences and what I have read about this. I have a question for my bariatric practice on the topic...and once I hear the surgeon's input feel it is a good topic for discussion in 2016. I am amazed to think about how time has gone, I'll be 5 years in Dec!!!

I just noticed that little VIP under my name. Alex I appreciate it, but I didn't sign up for it so it might be helpful to send an email to people when they get VIP status, explain benefits etc.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
