Your favorite protein powder?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering what everyone uses as far as Protein Powder is concerned. I don't want to buy a thousand cases before surgery and hate what I bought. I've decided to sample what's on the market and have since tried powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury to test it out and see what I thought before committing (I bought one container chocolate splendor and have loved it so far) but was wondering if there are alternatives out there that I should be looking at and just haven't found. This brand is literally the only one I could find and that's probably because I'm not well versed yet in exactly what to look for. (My nutritionist appt is coming up this Monday and this will be one of the things I ask her.)

Unjury has 17 servings and is pretty pricey for what it is. I am guessing that I'll have to commit to some sort of Protein supplement for a while until I can pack in that protein using actual food.

So who has some good news for me and has found a better deal that tastes great? Anyone?

You can get samples of tons of different brands from Nashua Nutrition, just Google Nashua Nutrition Protein Samples.

Of protein powders that have numbers (calories, carbs, protein) in the same ballpark as Unjury, my favorites are Syntrax Nectar Sweets (chocolate truffle & cappuccino), Syntrax Matrix, and Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. They are all cheaper than Unjury, but not a whole lot cheaper.

For powders that are significantly cheaper, you might try Pure Protein (you can find it at Target and I think CVS) and Body Fortress (Wal-Mart, Kroger). Body Fortress in particular gets good reviews. However, there really isn't a way to sample them, so you could possibly buy a container of it and hate it.

I really like the Quest Protein powder. Salted caramel and Cookies and Creme are my favorites. You can get them from GNC or order from Amazon.

I like bulk nutrients which is an australian brand. Nope sure if they ship to the US. Their flavours arent too strong or sweet and they blend up really creamy and smooth without an after taste with just Water

Thanks so much for all the input. I had no idea there were so many brands to look into! How did you all find them? Was it word of mouth or did your nutritionist introduce them? I really can't wait to see mine on Monday to bring her this list and ask what she thinks and if she has any other suggestions.

I found some by word of mouth (here and on other wls forums) plus my bariatric team included a list of suggested Protein Powder brands in the pre-op notebook that every patient gets.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
