Overeating? and PBing

Recommended Posts

I dont even know if this should be in the "food" section of the site but i had 2 general questions regarding food

A- I was wondering if you can overeat - "Stretch" the pouch without something getting stuck.

because yesterday i ate and felt extremely full and uncomfortable but nothing got stuck

B- What causes "PBing" or leads to it ? is it possible to prevent it

thank you :)

You can dilate your pouch without getting stuck. Think of it this way, some people use their esophagus as an extended stomach. Another name is pouch packing.

It's unlikely to cause a dilated (stretched) pouch in one episode, it can happen but it's unlikely. If you want, and if you aren't diabetic or anything similar, you can treat it as a dilated pouch by going on liquids for a few days. But honestly, I doubt it's necessary.

PBing happens for the same reasons as getting stuck. Eating bites too big, not chewing well, eating foods that don't break down well. For many that would be things like bread, Pasta, rice, tough meat, hamburger (hard to chew into a paste), foods such as that. Sure, you prevent it by not doing the above. :)

It's a productive burp. My personal opinion is that is misleading, I think it should be called Positively Barfing. It's when the contents of the pouch come back up vs. the contents of the big stomach.

ok so PBing is like the mini throw up?

the almost puke? or the full barf.

I know I am getting gross but I am just trying to understand.

I'm almost certain that it stands for "Projectile Burping". No joke.

So you burp and food flys out? really?

I would assume its a polite way of saying puking without stomach juices...

LOL well I guess it is. But noone ever accused me of being polite.

Is this something that happens often?

Well, you do not technically burp. You just feel uneasy, its enough to just touch the back of your throat with your finger and food flies out. Have you ever seen a mother bird feed her chicks in the nest? Well, this reflex looks something like that. When you overeat, the food is basically in the esophagus, so it's much easier to vomit. However, vomit is not the right word, I would call it an involontary purge. Anyways, feels much better after you do it(you should not overeat in the first place, but if you do, make sure you purge afterwards lol).

Had my first episode of this...I work for a temp agency and yesterday, I didn't work a full day, so I only got a 10 minute break...I put my lean cuisine in the microwave, went potty, came back and tried to eat in 8 minutes! BIG mistake!!!! I hurt so bad, but I thought "I'll tough it out, it has to go down at some point!" WRONG!!! I excused myself as fast as I could, tears in my eyes, and RAN to the bathroom and barely made it!!!! Eating fast is just NOT an option...I would have done MUCH better to drink my Protein shake and saved the lean cuisne for dinner!

Thank you, This is what I needed to know.

If I eat slow, small amounts, I shouldnt have to worry about this PBing thing.

Thank you I love this site. I am planning on getting a band but I am still in the learning stage.

LOL!!! I love it! OMG, you will fit in this forum beautifully!

Yes, it's like a mini throw up, the almost puke. The full barf is when you barf up from both stomachs.

Now grasshopper, do you know what sliming is? :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
