Sumaire 75 Posted February 26, 2016 My surgeon wanted me to be checked for a hiatal hernia before surgery, as I've had issues with throwing up after eating for the past few decades. Well, yes, I do have a hiatal hernia. I also have esophagitis (from long-term GERD) and moderately severe gastritis. I'm thinking that the surgery should help to eliminate/reduce those issues, and have explained that to my Mom, also reminding her that I am doing this for ME, as esophagitis is known to lead to esophageal cancer, which no one wants. She, of course, did the whole "well, if you hadn't eaten so much for all these years" thing, and my response was "well, that's in the past, and we can't do anything about the past, just the future", to which she grudgingly agreed. Family. Can't live with 'em, can't make 'em listen the first time.
jj7481 363 Posted February 26, 2016 RNY will help with the GERD. Did you test + for H. Pylori? That was my issue and had to complete a two week course of antibiotics and PPI's. The hiatal hernia will likely get fixed during your surgery. Family is....family. You just need to remind them when they are overstepping their bounds.
