Taking steps for post-op

Recommended Posts

My surgery is a month away but I am trying to think of ways to modify current unhealthy habits with healthier habits. I work from home and set most of the day and need to move more now and post surgery. I think that I may have a solution, I just bought a new VariDesk. Excited to be able to stand to work. Has anyone ever tried one of them?

Once I KNEW I was going to have the surgery, I had one final fling with food. All you can eat pizza for lunch and a cafeteria buffet for dinner. The very next day, which was a month before surgery, I did EXACTLY what I was supposed to do. I was down to 1400 calories a day with the correct foods, began a Vitamin regimen, and started walking. By the time of my surgery I had lost 17 lbs and already had a mindset for doing the right thing. Once I made the decision, I was "all in". Now I've dieted and failed many times but not with so much at stake. I had sleep apnea, bad joints, the beginnings of diabetes, high blood pressure, and was miserable in my own skin. The other factor was,,,,, I was self pay, so 10,000 dollars was coming out of my savings, and at 62 I was trying to stash away money for retirement. I was motivated by all of these factors. The desk sounds like a step in the right direction. I would suggest you decide today that as of right now, you're on a new course. Best of luck to you.

No, I haven't but would be curious to know how you like it.

Some of the things I did to prepare for surgery:

Weaned myself off of carbonation.

Weaned myself off of caffeine.

Worked up to exercising 60 minutes a day.

Increased my Water consumption, aiming for at least 64 oz of Water a day.

Practiced mindful eating/eating slowly.

Tried to eat more fresh whole fruits and vegetables, especially vegetables.

Started paying more attention to Protein.

Tried some different Protein supplements.

Started collecting post-op supplies.

Read and learned as much as I could.

Journaled.

Updated my will and prepared a living will.

I didn't really have major food funerals, but if I had something I tried to make sure it was quality.

Best of luck with your surgery,

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
