Feeling Discouraged, needing encouragement

Recommended Posts

Hello, I had my surgery done on 12/29. My starting weight was 340, and my weight on the day of surgery was 327. It's been about two months, and I've only lost about 44 more pounds, and only lost 15 of that in the past month. I'm down about 54 lbs all together, at 284 right now. Is this good? I've been stalling pretty heavily since January, is this normal? I feel discouraged because sometimes I won't lose anything for like 2 weeks at a time and even then it's only a few lbs. Needing some encouragement.

Don't be discouraged, you are doing great! Think about it, that's average of 22 lbs a month! Great job!! And yes high numbers one week and low the next is normal, weight loss has ups and downs so try to take measurements and pictures so that you can see the changes in your body and not just the number on the scale.

Sounds to me like you are doing great. The scale is trending downward. You had a higher starting weight than me but you are killing me in weight loss. At two months post-op I was "only" down 22 pounds from my surgery weight. So half as much as you've lost. Are you getting in your Protein and Water? Are you walking and staying active? If your answers to those questions are "yes" and "yes", then you are doing fantastic and need to just keep it up!

Congratulations! Losing 54 pounds is a tremendous accomplishment.

Please remove the term "only" from your vocabulary and Celebrate your successes.

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process.

Embrace the Stall!

I am in the exact same boat, sleeved 12/28 @ 382; am now at 345. It does not seem as fast as others, though I think I am following the diet to a 95% level. Thinking about joining a fitness center to try and get some much needed exercise (I work in an office all day and don't get much).

Can you folks who are 'years out' from surgery give an average or your experience say for the 1st year?

8-10 lbs per month is what I usually lost after the first month. Y'all are crazy with your expectations.

ETA: I was no lightweight, I started with a 59.9 BMI.

My monthly weight loss is in my signature.

My surgeon said with vsg, wl would be 10-12 per month on average. You're beating the average! Some months will be more, some less. As long as it's going down, it's great!

As everyone else has said, don't be discouraged! 15 pounds in a month, and 44 since surgery, is nothing to sneeze at! Even if you weren't beating the average... that's a lot of weight to lose in two months. You're doing well!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
