Proud2BMe 1,016 Posted February 24, 2016 Do you mean lose weight before your surgery is approved? If so, no. Usually that's only the case for people who are extremely heavy and the doctors usually require that for them to just make sure they are fully committed to this before proceeding. However, most doctors do require a pre-op diet to shrink the liver.
kaitlynm 335 Posted February 24, 2016 If you are using health insurance, almost all of them require some sort of medically supervised diet prior to approval of the surgery.
Debbieduck4 399 Posted February 24, 2016 I think most insurances require proof of some sort of medically supervised weight loss effort before they will approve. Even though my doctor had recommended Weight Watchers and I submitted my Weight Watchers records, along with a note from my doctor, my insurance wouldn't accept that... they wanted things done in a certain way with my physician, so we had to follow their exact protocol to get approval. It was a pain but worth it in the end.
kimkw 7 Posted February 29, 2016 Turning out great. Looks like surgery in April thanks to a great nurse practitioner who has seen me since before the band. Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App
