You were JUST banded, you JUST had surgery! :) You are supposed to feel this way.

As the swelling goes down and you get back into a more normal routine I think you'll find that you feel better.

Just remember, fat is stored energy!! That's the good news, as you burn fat you'll have energy. I think it was 2 weeks for me before I didn't want to crawl under a table and take a nap. And for various reasons I was on Clear Liquids for three weeks.

It gets better, honest.

Oh... one other trick. Might want to get some Propel Water. It has just a hint of sugar. Not enough to cause the blood sugar spikes but enough to give you a little boost. Gatorade and juice have wayyy too much sugar, Crystal lite has none, Propel is juuuuust right. :)

Great advise on the propel and the bottle is so much easier to drink from especially the first couple of days.

I have started slimfast and just one a day has seemed to do the trick. thanks for the info.

Stay away from slimfast if at all possible. There is usually a very high content of sugars. Even Ensure is way to high in that respect.

There are plenty of product our there that will fit your needs as a new bandster that is low in sugar and carbs. Bariatrix makes a good product. You can find quite a few different things at Bariatric Advantage. (Nutritional supplements for Gastric Bypass Bariatric Surgery Patients from Bariatric Advantage)

Hope that helps.

Yep, I completely agree about Slimfast. That's some seriously unfriendly bandster stuff. There is enough sugar in there to cause mega blood sugar spikes and while you might be satisfied for an hour or so, within 1-2 hours you'll be starving.

The best quality of Protein (not talking flavor but Protein quality) on the market today are Matrix 5.0, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, and Isopure. They are also the best for protein/calorie ratios. The absolute worst quality of protein on the market today are the super expensive products, the bullets, shots, and shooters such as New whey. If it comes in a plastic test tube, don't waste your money. On a scale from 1-100 on protein quality Matrix and Unjury are 100, Isopure is 80 (still quite sufficient) and New Whey is 4 out of 100. You'd literally have to drink 15 of them daily to get your 60gms of protein in.

New whey and those in the plastic test tubes are made of collagen. That's the lowest of the low on protein scales. It's made from cow gristle, cow/horse hair, and hooves. It's just a very poor quality of protein.

The cheaper products (per serving) happen to be the best.

BTW, whey protein raw materials cost just tripled for protein product manufacturers so buy up your protein products now before the cost goes up.

Try some Vitamen Water they make several different flavors and are quite good. They provide from 25%-50% of your daily allowances of vitamens.

When I got to feeling run down, I would drink Zero Carb Isopure, it is a clear liquid (in several flavors). I bought mine at GNC, it was in the neighborhood of $3.29 a bottle. The bottles look kind of like Sobe bottles. There is 40 g. of Protein in each bottle. I would sluch them with ice, drink half in the morning and half at night, it made a HUGE difference in my energy levels getting some protein in.

Welcome to bandland, it is sometimes a difficult start--but you are on your way to a new healthier you!!! Welcome!!!

Has everyone been on liquids for a while after surgery?? I only had to do 2 days of liquids and move to soft for a few days and then insert foods as tolerated??? Just wondering

Yes I was on a much more stringent diet than that! I was 2 weeks of Clear Liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids, and 2 weeks of mushies. Then I could see about tolerating food in general. IF I had no issues after 2 weeks of eating normally, and if my losing had slowed down, and I was experiencing hunger, then I could have a fill. I followed it VERY closely, I admit to jumping the gun by 2 days into eating a fuller diet, but I have not had any complications, and can eat almost any food now. Not sure, and actually doubtful that there is any connection, but it is one of those "if it ain't broke---don't fix it" things, I plan on following what my Dr. says!!!

I am 15 1/2 months out from surgery and have had 2 fills, and see the light at the end of the tunnel signaling my goal!!!!

Good Luck to you, and welcome to LBT!!!

Hi, Was a Bubble Butt.................that is some very interesting information on the whey products. I have learned a lot.

We just talked tonight about different whey Proteins, and those shots you mentioned were discussed. I had never heard of them before. The gal said she bought them at the "Vitamin Shoppe". I do think that is a chain store. She said they were good and full of Protein, but did not mention anything else about them. She most likely does not know much about them, though. How did you learn all of that info? I would love to read some of the things you have been teaching us here...................Nice to "see" you again!

I think everyones doc says something different. I chose to follow the one week clear one week liquid one week mushie and then regular food, I did this because I thought it would expediate the weight loss process and it did. regardless of my ticker below, i can not figure out how to change it, I am down 21 pounds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
