Question for men in maintenance

Recommended Posts

My husband and I both had the sleeve done in 2013. I've lost roughly 90lbs along with having a baby as well. I've been sticking to Protein Shakes and lean meats/vegetables while trying to stay under 1200 calories. It's still hard to lose the baby weight and I'm currently 181.

My husband on the other hand has lost about 200lbs. He is 6'1 and now 180ish. His calorie goal is 1600, but most times he is getting 1200-1500 according to his food log. He is almost too skinny now and is still losing. He doesn't work out and gets most of his calories from beer and chips after a healthy dinner. I'm afraid he is going to keep losing and sacrifice his health. I know he never meets his Protein goal and overstates his intake. Vitamins just sit in the cabinet unmoved.

Guys, I'm looking for advice to relay and I would like to know your calories/protein goals. I've explained to him he needs more protein and at least 1800 calories. Am I over reacting or should I be worried? I've even asked him to see a nutritionist, but he declines. Not sure what else to tell him.

LOL! I agree.

You already know he doesn't want your advice.

Going forward, you'd just be nagging.

Of course, that's your right. ;)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
