My surgery will be March 11. I am worried about the level of pain. I have had a knee replacement. It wasn't too bad but needed pain meds. I was hoping for an idea. How bad is it after surgery?

my mom was in a lot of pain after the sleeve procedure. keep in mind the pain isn't from the incisions but from the gas pains. also everyone's body reacts differently so you may or may not feel as much pain or discomfort might be a better word, as others. good luck though!

I am 5 days post op and stopped my pain meds yesterday. I wanted to stop them on day2, but doc advised to continue on them. I feel perfectly fine. Mild soreness only.

I've had both a knee replacement and a sleeve. The sleeve surgery was a pin prick compared to the knee replacement. Not even close!

You got this!

Agree with prior post. I had surgery a week ago and although I knew the gas pain would be bad, never expected it to be THAT bad. Worst pain ever. Everyone is different though. My friend came home only taking Tylenol and I'm still on pain meds. Nothing you can do to prepare for it and when it comes walk, walk, walk to help with the gas and prevent blood clots.

The gas pain is the belly pain people talk about? I would think the small incisions wouldn't hurt too much. I have also had a c-section that really hurt but mainly from having to take care of a baby afterwards.

yes I'm assuming that's what most of the pain if any is caused by the gas. it can also be trapped in your chest or shoulder or back. everyone is different you may not feel it as others. but the more you walk the more it will help to release it

I stopped pain meds in the hospital on day 2 when I told them I didn't need my happy button. Never took anything for it beyond the couple of clicks day 1. That said, everyone is different ... go into it realistically & plan on having something if you need it. If you don't need it, even better!

I had an abdominal hernia repaired at the same time of my sleeve surgery.

It was a complete and total non-event (sleeve portion). Even the hernia wasn't near as bad as the two prior hernia repairs I've had.

I was back at work 3 weeks later.....worked 6-8 hour days. Week 4 found me working 13+ hour days.

Sleeve surgery will be a walk in the park for you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
