Hospital necessities and Staying busy during recovery?

Recommended Posts

What do you suggest I bring to the hospital for my surgery? Staying 1-2 nights.

How did you stay busy during your recovery? I don't know what I'm going to do! I got a mandala coloring book ;)

Pj bottoms, loose clothes to wear home, a pillow, lip balm, charging cords and slip on shoes for walking around the hospital.

I slept and watched tv in the hospital

I took my rosary to say "thank YOU".

I took my robe and slippers to remind me of home.

I took my favorite perfume so I would smell like "me" and not "hospital"

I took tooth brush and paste, and waterless Shampoo and a hair brush

I took my phone and charger.

and

very important: chapstick

We'll be warming up the Losers' Bench for you!

I took an extra pair of underwear (just wore home what I wore to the hospital -- a loose dress), lip balm, biotene, heating pad, a pillow for the ride home, and my mom!

Thank you! How did you keep busy at home while recovering? Ima pretty active person and know I'm going to have to keep my hands/brain busy!

Initially, right after surgery I kept myself busy by sipping. Sipping and walking is pretty much a full time job!

Once you are able to do other things you could color, knit/crochet, read, watch tv, etc.

Honestly everything I brought I didn't need or use. Most of the time I spent sleeping and when I was awake I was walking around with the nurse or peeing (I received so many fluids via IV). Also, all my loved ones wanted updates so that kept me busy as well. Also, I would suggest being very focused on drinking that Water once the time comes. I was overwhelmed with how difficult it was and was unable to go home the first day without getting all the fluids in.

In the hospital I stayed busy trying to sleep. Nobody would let me lol. Once I got back to the house I walk, play video games, crochet, read, watch vids on the latest model planes, take the dogs for walks, ferry people to and fro, and dream of foods that crunch.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
