Pain and Pain medications

I just got sleeved

3 days ago and still suffering from pain. My pulse is still pretty high. I was prescribed liquid Lortab and I'm already almost out. Not sure if I have a really low pain tolerance and I'm being a big baby, or if I think it's bad because it's still sore. the only thing I can say is it's worse, for me, than getting all my wisdom teeth pulled.

I had the sleeve, gallbladder removed and hernia repair. My recovery is taking a while. I was giving liquid Hydrocodone w/acetaminophen (vicodin) and that worked quite well.

Liquid Tylenol works as well but only on the minor pains after the big post-surgical pains simmered down.

You can get adult Tylenol liquid. It works really well. I switched to it exclusively after like 2 days on narcotic.

Honestly I think oxy is overkill. Maybe ask for liquid norco? Less addictive and works well.

They carry the adult tylenol liquid at CVS.

All pain medication has the potential for addiction if you abuse it including tramadol.

On the other hand...Pain control is essential for healing.

Take the pain meds at the dose that relieves your pain and taper down as the pain subsidence likely this will be a week or two at the most. Remember to take a stool softener daily as long as you are on them.

You aren't going to become junkie taking short term post operative medication.

Can this pain be compared to childbirth?

not even close. I am 13 days out and still have a bit of incision pain. I found that wearing a compression top 24/7 worked far better that narcotic pain meds by day 4.

Well...maybe for you but it's unreasonable to make a blanket statement like this. I was on morphine for 24 hours post op because I woke up from surgery literally screaming from pain.

BWT I gave birth to a full term breech baby without any medication as I am hardly a pain light weight.

Sorry, no. It is actually completely reasonable for me to politely express my own opinion.

I never felt any pain. They gave me pain medication through IV and I did not need anything after I got out of the hospital because I was never in any pain. I did not even have gas pains that a lot of people talk about. Everyone is different.

Just as I am untitled to "politely" disagree.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
