Feeling a lot of emotions

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for March 18th. While I am excited to finally have this opportunity, I'm also nervous and scared. I have struggled with my weight all my life. food has been a HUGE part of it. I kind of feel as though this is the end of a relationship. I'm also nervous about the excess skin issue and how I will look after I have lost all the weight.

No reason to be afraid. This is a very low risk surgery. There will definitely be some trials and tribulations post-op and you will struggle to adapt, but you will get there eventually. As for the loose skin, that should be the least of your worries. Excess skin never killed anyone. Obesity kills thousand and thousands of people every year.

You'll decide for yourself whether this is good news or bad: You are not unique.

1. food is necessary. What you are describing, however, is a lousy, unfulfilling marriage. You'll meet someone better: Yourself. You'll also find things about yourself that you never knew, but will value.

2. Excess skin is a cosmetic matter. Don't get so far ahead of things to worry about. At the right time you can choose solutions.

You're fine.

Very normal to be having these thoughts.

For most of my adult life I've not only been a big eater.....but a food prep fan. I absolutely love grilling, smoking and cooking outdoors and some inside, too.

Love watching Guy Fieri's show and others.

Thoroughly enjoy cooking for family and friends.....and coworkers.

Had the surgery and wondered how I'd deal with my grilling hobby.

For the first 8 weeks or so I avoided it.

Soon after, though......I cooked some ribs and pulled pork for my family.....then some steaks......then some chicken.......over the weekends ahead.

I find that I actually enjoy cooking for them now more than ever.......seriously. I even was talking to a good friend about my menu items for this coming week......going to make them some homemade mashed potatoes and all the killer ingredients I'll put in them.

I make all this stuff and have zero desire to eat the carb-loaded stuff anymore. Just the Proteins. I'm perfectly content with that.

As far as the plastics later on.........when the time comes I will address that and move on past it. No worries......just keep on progressing with my life.

OMG me too! I am scheduled mid March too. So scared and nervous that I won't be able to do this! But excited that I am......back and forth I go with these emotions!

I understand completely. Yet have no advice lol.

I just found this site so that helps. This is a second chance and I'm ready...scared but ready. I am tired of feeling like crap and being overweight.

We can do this!

I'm scheduled for March 31st and I have a lot of anxieties about the surgery and recovery in general.

What's weird is that I'm dreading the pre-op 2-week liquid diet because I know it's going to be challenging to handle all that comes with doing that (I have to take morphine for a chronic pain condition and this kind of intake is going to be rough with the side effects).

But I'm not so worried about my food intake after the surgery. I know that I won't feel like eating because of the recovery and the fact that the stomach is going to be so sensitive, I'll keep it as calm as I can.

I suffered with H. Pilori (an ulcer) about 12 years ago and it was AWFUL. You feel uncomfortably full all the time, so I remember that so vividly, I think I'll be good about keeping myself in check post-op (fingers crossed!).

I just want all the worry to be over so I can move on and start enjoying my life more!

Here's to a fantastic 2016 and beyond!!!

I have done the 2 week liquid diet already. It was really tough for me. I think the hardest part was that I just missed chewing food. I did find that chewing sugar free gum helped with that though. I ended up losing 15 lbs during those 2 weeks, so I felt like it was all worth it in the end.

I'm scheduled fur RNY on March 8th. I think what you are feeling is normal. I have been really nervous about things too. I worry about the surgery , Joe I'll feel in the hospital, coming home, losing hair, excess loose skin etc. But then I think of feeling better, having relief from the weight that will be of of my spine, breathing better looking better, having more energy and my excitements far outway my fears. I love this sight after reading a few posts it's easy to realize we truly aren't alone. We are actually normal lol

I am scheduled for March 14th. I am having the same rollercoaster of emotions from excited to nervous. Excited about changing my relationship with food, excited about being a healthy weight for the first time in my life. Excited about being active and feeling comfortable. Nervous about complications, about failing to change my ways, about giving up food I love, and then of course about how I will look after losing hopefully 150ish pounds. I would be more worried about this but it seems like a normal response to such a big life change. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
