I went in on a Tuesday at 11 am surgery started around 1 pm was wheeled into my private room at 6 pm. Left before noon on Thursday. The Dr was looking at me leaving on Wednesday. But I had 3 procedures so Wed I was still pretty weak as when they helped me to the bathroom I didn't have the strength to get up off the toilet. They called for a PT with a lift belt. The PT and 2 really thin nurses helped me up. When the Dr was told that had happened he oked another day. By Thursday I was anxious to get home.

My surgeon was ready for me to go home after one night in the hospital but I couldn't get down the required liquid. Ended up staying two nights in the hospital. I felt like it was necessary because of the risk of dehydration. My pain was fine and I could move well. List to your body. Don't force down liquid or over do yourself. You'll get home when you're ready! Best of luck tomorrow!

I stayed 2 nights and felt like I needed it, mostly because of the anesthesia. Felt exhausted and sleepy most of the time there. 3rd day was ready to get in my own bed. Was discomfort but no pain, used gasx and pepcid. Only 1 dose of narcotics after getting home for a terrible headache. Good luck, don't rush it, as you have those IV fluids to keep you hydrated while you are there.

I bet you'll be ready to go the next day. My surgery was around 11 and I didn't get into my room until after 4. I was itching to go the next day. Was home by 2.

I went into surgery at 3:30pm and was released at 11pm that same night. For sleeve, my doctor prefers patients to go home the same day if possible. My surgery went well with no complications so I was released the same day. Every doc/surgery is different. I have a 3 year old at home and it was nice to be home but I had family helping my husband with him for a couple of days while my husband took care of me. Good luck!!

26 hours. I wanted out of there as fast as possible. I walked all night and the next day when I got my the okay to eat, I attacked it with all the gusto I could find, which wasn't much. i have to be able to get a decent amount of my tray down to leave.

The other people that had surgery on my floor were in bed the whole time, they never got up and walked. They complained about their pain the whole time. I wouldn't have been able to sleep well anyway. I could have stayed another night if I wanted to but I pushed to get out ASAP.

If you have kids, I would probably stay in the hospital longer, unless they will really let you rest at home. You need the rest, even though you feel good, it is still major surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
