Anyone having fever after surgery? How long did it last? Is it normal?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved last Wednesday. And as soon as I got home on Saturday I've been running a fever of about 99.6. Tylenol helps. But I'm wondering if its normal?

I think a slight fever is fairly normal but you might want to call your surgeon just in case.

Were you given a list of symptoms to look for when you were discharged?

If anything feels it seems out of the ordinary don't be afraid to call and ask.

I had surgery Wednesday too! (RNY) I had a fever between 100 - 100.8 in the hospital, so they kept me an extra night - said it's normal because your body may be fighting off some bacteria that got in during surgery.
My discharge paperwork says not to worry unless you get to 101, at which point you should give them a call to see what they want you to do.

I've been home since Saturday and I'm still running a low-grade fever off and on through the day - it hasn't gone higher than 99.9

Tylenol is good -- but also, drink your Water and use your deep breathing device (Spirometer) - that's what they had me do in the hospital and that's the ongoing advice still!

A fever under 101 post op is normal especially if Tylenol helps. Keep an eye on it but make sure to keep up on your nutrients and keep as hydrated as possible. It's not a bad idea to keep your surgeon in the loop, but they'll probably advise the same and have you keep an eye on it from home.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
